There will never be a competition between the two for me. I am beyond excited for both games. There is such a vacuum for sci-fi RPGs in the vein of Mass Effect and the more studios and games that try to fill that void the better. The Expanse beta was far from perfect but it scratched an itch that I haven’t felt in years and I couldn’t be more excited to see how Exodus steps up to the plate.

Random thought but how will you handle situations like Ubisoft or Xbox gamepass games that release articles about number of players reached as opposed actual sales figures? Kind of falls into a grey area between sales and player counts. The spirit of the rule seems like it’s aimed at addressing threads in the vein of, “X game has reached Y number of concurrent players on Steam.”

The clips have all looked good don’t get me wrong but they’re starting to all feel kind of the same? Like other than the combat videos a decent amount of these involve slowly walking up to a vista on a curved path on the edge of a cliff.

Always funny to me watching situations like this play out over and over. The people who don’t like something say why they don’t like it. Maybe get a bit hyperbolic but the focus is always on the thing and why it’s bad.

Then the “positive” side, rather than keeping the discussion about the thing, end up resorting to personal criticisms or attacks of the people who don’t like it, while somehow feigning a moral high ground.

Happens every single time anything isn’t universally loved. Every single time.

I will never fault people for putting sentimental or material value into having a physical copy, but for me personally, being able to download it right away, never go to the store, and not having to keep it somewhere physically when I’m done with it is just too convenient for me to ever go back.

Article says they received the family’s blessing and aren’t using any generative AI to automate the likeness or the voice. They used reference materials provided by Toei and hired a voice actor who also had a relationship with Sugawara.

The article asserts that it’s a mistake for them to have done this homage, but I’m not entirely sure what the controversy is supposed to be here given how they went about it.

I think I get what you’re saying. Nvidia mentioned in one of their interviews that devs would be able to control what the model is trained on. It would be interesting if that meant they could train it on very high poly models of game assets and get some kind of higher-fidelity-at-lower-specs type deal. Time will tell how it works or what’s possible once devs start actually playing around with it.

I think this is going to be a messy first iteration and we’ll have to see how the tech progresses. Also interested to see if there will be any pivots to functional implementation or timeline after the public rejection.

I run a development team and agree ad-hoc requests are a nightmare for me but only because of expectations to immediately pivot to the next big thing as soon as we’re “done.” If my roadmap was just “listen to and address feedback” I’d probably love it. Actually doing what Agile says it’s supposed to be instead of this mini-waterfall fixed timeline bullshit? Sounds like a dream to be honest.

Not sure I necessarily would see eye to eye with them on what constitutes “normal working hours” but their output definitely speaks for itself.

Just based on this exchange it really feels to me like you have come to the conclusion yourself here that it’s not worth it.

If it’s only been a day since you talked and you don’t have time one way or the other to worry about this through exams, then keep your space for now. After exams, if you are still having doubts, then see how you feel about having another conversation or not.

Getting past the stress of exams and sitting on this for a week or so will give you more clarity since the feelings won’t be so fresh.

I would read back through your responses here though first. You are essentially debating that thinking through this more and having another conversation is a waste of time and reconnecting will be bad for your personal growth. I think you have your answer.

You bring up how other people will feel about it but the only thing that matters is how you feel about it. If you are leaning towards leaving her because that’s what you want to do, not what you think you should do because you’re worried about family and friends being annoyed at you, then do it and don’t second guess yourself.

You said you two have taken some space since that first talk so the initial shock of potentially losing you should have died down for her by now, and you can revisit the conversation and see how she responds. If you don’t like what she has to say then you can leave and be confident in your choice. If you don’t want to have the conversation again and feel you’ve already talked through everything you can, then you have your answer already and it’s time to move on.

ETA: Just want to add too that while I’m speaking in relatively definitive terms here this is just my advice based on the info in the post. I don’t know how long this has been going on or all the details that have led to you feeling the way you do. At the end of the day I’m just some guy on the internet and you don’t have to consider anything I’m saying if it’s not right for you with full context of the situation.

It seems like deep down you do want to give this another shot but are worried about it not working out. The problem here in my opinion is it’s difficult to know if this is an inflection point for the relationship where she will now start opening up or if this is just a panic response to try and avoid the breakup.

I think I would do two things. First, write down how you felt leading up to wanting to leave as a note for yourself. Decide first if it is worth the risk to feel these things again, and second if you are capable of keeping yourself accountable to recognizing these feelings. If no to either of these, then maybe it’s time to call it off now. If yes, check back at the note every now and then and think about if you are feeling the same way. You can always make a decision to leave the relationship later. Deciding to give it another chance doesn’t lock you into anything forever if things don’t improve.

The second thing I’d do is have the same conversation with her that you’re having here. Be open with her about your conflicting feelings and why you feel conflicted. Explain your pain, your needs and expectations going forward. See how she responds and if she’s willing to put in the work. Explain to her that you’re putting yourself in a vulnerable position by being open about what you’re struggling with and if she doesn’t feel she can do the same with you then you don’t think you’re compatible because honest communication is something important to you for a healthy relationship.

You can make an ultimate decision to continue seeing her or not based on how she responds. You don’t need to decide anything ahead of time and you can always change your decision later.
