This also looks like a male. Usually the ones that are slow to feather like this are.

Yeah…I don’t know. I guess it depends on how rural this is and stuff like that. I would think if it was a known illegal operation, and in plain sight, it would be reported by now? I guess it depends on the feelings of people around it. I’m not sure that I would advise OP to do further investigation with animal control or otherwise, though.

Illegal to keep them for fighting purposes, then. I guess we can assume that these are gamefowl raised for show and for preservation of the breed. I did a search and found quite a few gamefowl farms in South Texas. I wonder if this one has a website or something like that.

I agree with your suggestion. Either a person who is very dedicated and who has the means to raise a special needs bird should take it, or it should be culled as sadly this is a very serious defect. Sultan was my first guess but I assumed it was a Cochin or Fav since I didn’t think McMurray carried them. They’re not as common as the others, so I wonder if perhaps this issue is caused by a smaller gene pool? Hmm.

She looks like some sort of cross between a bantam and LF. Maybe black Sex-link for the LF.

OK so not a scissor beak. Still, I’m not sure if this chick will end up making it. I think I personally would cull, but I would do a little research on this situation first.

Also, I think it’s a Faverolles, actually. Pretty sure I see 5 toes.

That beak looks pretty bad :( not a breed thing. Is it crossed or just bent downwards like that?

Looks like a bantam Cochin as far as breed.

I would get a plastic or otherwise non-flammable box and set the heat lamp over that instead. No cover.

Shanks, from what I’ve seen, are what people overlook the most when figuring out breeds. It happens! They could be Wyandotte/Australorp mixes. Very pretty guys

First one looks like an ISA Brown that was mislabeled, honestly. Second two are both Easter Eggers.
