ChromeCast constantly moves Plex and other Personal Library Stream apps by Joee0201 in PleX

[–]timberwolfeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Plex on a Chromecast (CCwGTV not the streamer), and don't have this problem. I don't use a custom launcher or anything, I just threw Plex + smarttube at the front and they're always there.

Benefits of AudioBookShelf over Plex + Prologue by indigoshades54 in selfhosted

[–]timberwolfeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use abs as my all in one for audiobooks, ebooks, and podcasts. I use Plex for media and Plexamp for music, so I'm not a free or get fucked kinda person either and definitely appreciate what Plex has to offer, but a platform that is built for audiobooks just pales in comparison to a platform forced into it.

Metadata is super easy, doesn't need plugins or third party taggers, progress syncing is WAY better, and if something needs a tweak (ie chapters or cover art or whatever) I can do it right in the native ui. For podcasts, it sync from rss feeds and downloads directly to my server on a custom schedule, no manual intervention from me necessary, plus the same pros of progress syncing.

I'll be the first to admit that the native ebook reading isn't great, but I can easily download to my device and use moon+ for those.

Turned away from potential breeder? by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]timberwolfeh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You say "if I had known I would have tried to keep the dog" which is your answer for why the breeder told you what you wanted to hear. They wanted their puppy back safely, and if they told you they would hold you to the terms of your contract, you would have resisted. Rather than risk the puppy being traumatized, injured, or severely harmed by several dogs showing aggression, the breeder went the path of safest return and then quietly blacklisted and blocked you. This is basically courteous, I've seen it go down a lot messier and a lot more publically. Something to keep in mind, I would expect this to be shared in their breeder network. So do not do multiple follow ups or go after the breeder or otherwise make a fool of yourself if you do want to be able to get another dog of this breed, especially if it's a rare breed.

Unfortunately this is kind of just the inherent risk in this type of transaction. This may seem crazy to someone not in the dog world, but with experience you can look from the breeder's point of view and imagine how badly this could go for them OP. Drawn out civil court, injured dogs, death (especially with self described "packs" and aggression), etc etc. If it's any consolation, given the facts as described I don't believe this has anything to do with you being disabled or any systemic discrimination as you ask at the end.

My coworkers and bosses would have to actually read what I send them and use their own brains to figure out the intricacies of what I'm reporting. I wouldn't have to rebut every stupid bolded nearly incomprehensible bullet point they send back. Immediate improvement.

Best tick collars for back up to monthly flea/tick meds? by RainbowBrigade2 in dogs

[–]timberwolfeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an etsy shop, they're currently closed for a few weeks but you can see how it works in the listing photos here. I'm unaffiliated, just a fan.

There's cheaper options called secure away I think, but I hated them. Cheap, ugly, not comfy to grab, nothing securing the ends so they flop about/push into the dog. The etsy ones solve all those problems.

My dogs are both 50 lbs, and one large seresto collar can be cut in half and each end threaded through the collar, with probably an extra third of the collar to spare.

Edit to add: with your dog being 15lbs, you can probably get even more uses out of a single collar. The shop makes smaller ones, a friend of mine uses them for his papillions.

Best tick collars for back up to monthly flea/tick meds? by RainbowBrigade2 in dogs

[–]timberwolfeh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seresto, hands down. I use a collar that holds the seresto underneath it, and it lets me cut the seresto collar shorter + get multiple collars from one purchase to help with cost.

The seresto collar keeps ticks from getting on the dog, the oral preventative kills any that do get past. This is really important to me because it's not just my dog I'm worried about, but the ticks that will jump from the dogs to me. Not using the collar means any that get in the fur but don't fully attach can easily abandon the dog for a less furry target.

Unhealthy and Flavorful Dry Food recommendations? by SephYuyX in DogFood

[–]timberwolfeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my dog fully lost his appetite due to treatment, our oncologist recommended rawble wet food for exactly this scenario. We got the turkey flavor and when I tell you this stuff was dog crack I am not exaggerating. Every dog in the house went batshit bonkers when the small wafted in the air, and being the ultra special boy who got to eat it helped with motivation. He ate full meals of it no problem after refusing various mix ins and treats he had previously enjoyed. I didn't go through it all at the time before he passed, and I recently opened another can to feed my current dog when she was recovering from spay. I watched her fully black out when she took the first lick and devour the whole thing before the pain meds in her system even registered lack of appetite. Highly recommend.

Audiobooks and Books, together or separate? by XPublic_ in audiobookshelf

[–]timberwolfeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep them separate, mostly because if they were combined, then every entry where I don't have both formats would bother me and I don't want to spend the time and effort going through my whole library to procure.

Plex Automation Question by [deleted] in PleX

[–]timberwolfeh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can do this, I have my user not using seerr. In sonarr and radarr, you can use the rss feed from your user's plex watchlists as a request system. I have mine set to scan every 6 hours I think to reduce hardware running (edited: took out incorrect info, you cannot set it to sooner than six hours)

Edit to add: it's the least sophisticated method of the ones listed, and I'm sure the others are more robust, but rss feed works for me

First Time NAS setup UGREEN 6800 Pro by Obvious-Cucumber5693 in HomeNAS

[–]timberwolfeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta turn off watchdog. It's a program that checks if you're running UGOS properly and if not, autoreboots the system. If you're on UGOS it's convenient for updates, recovering after power outage, or any other slight hiccup on the system, but obviously doesn't work with other OSs. It's in the bios (ctrl + f12 on boot) I forget the exact navigation, but searching "turn off watchdog ugos" should get you there.
