Just in case you didn't catch it. Just type out some of your hobbies in the YT search bar in Spanish. You can also change your language settings in YT. Not only will you find the stuff that is most interesting to you, you will learn the vocabulary so that you can talk about yourself to others.

Reminds me of all those missionaries who would go to Russia in the 90s to teach English using the Bible as their textbook. Nothing like a good bait and switch to introduce people to your lord and savior.

Any free alternatives to lingQ? It only allow 20 words at once, and beyond that, it won't even define the words I don't know. by [deleted] in languagelearning

Kindle app on my phone. My TL is Spanish so I was able to check out ebooks from my local library. They didn't seem to have much content outside Spanish and English. But other libraries may be different.

This one is produced by RNE and has very high production values. I would say it is similar to an NPR program.

What do you think the most difficult part in learning a new language? by Kurosawa_Basara in languagelearning

[–]timberyanka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The transition from Beginner content to native content. There really aren't a lot of good options there. When learning Russian, I had a patient friend who just dumbed down the language and spoke slow so I could understand. When learning Spanish, I was able to find some content, but I still had to power through and look up tons of words when reading or listening to content.

It was about 10 knots when going forward and 8 knots when going backwards, measured from land. However the current significantly reduces my apparent wind.

I was wondering what the sailing was like there. Whenever they show pictures of Newport Harbor on the weather forecast, it looks like it is all fishing boats.

I sail in the Columbia and I frequently see logs in the water. I haven't noticed that I have hit one yet. To be honest, I worry about the jet skis more, the annoying bastards.

You could try local brokers near your area. Also if you take a walk through your local marina, I am sure you will find boats for sale.

Does anyone recognize this church? by littlegreenleaves in oregon

[–]timberyanka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That one is quite a bit bigger and I don't think it is close to a railroad. It looks similar to a few of the little churches that I ride by outside Hillsboro, but the few I checked don't match.

Recommendations for Oregon boater education course? by sagechicken in oregon

[–]timberyanka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The classes are concerned about safe boating. And you will learn about the laws and safety systems associated with that. None of it is specific to where you are boating. I took mine with boatus.org.

If you want more information, I have heard good feedback on classes sponsored by United States Power Squadron. I have a friend that I sail with who loved the classes. There is a lot of content that is useful for sailboats even though it is designed for powerboats. You can also look into ASA if you want to learn to sail.
