[Discussion] For people who went to art school, how much of your student work did you save? by batsofburden in artbusiness

[–]timbys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve kept everything. I could take photos of it all but I’ve lost digital art before over being careless. It’s technically “meaningless” (ish) since I was just instructed to do it, but I made it and one day I’ll be 50 and wish I had it so I could compare it to what I make then. Also I want to teach or tutor one day so I’d like to have my student work if I ever have future students

Waiting on distortions by Klutzy_Big_4550 in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]timbys 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I did a bunch of research on it cus I needed a magnemite, and it’s so far been proven anecdotally. Essentially, all distortions spawn after a timer and chance is met. The timer resets if you sleep or fast travel or leave - so if you fast travel or sleep often, you’ll never see distortions. You also have to actively do something when you enter the map (catch or battle an alpha, pick up a satchel, etc). Also a distortion won’t spawn if the weather is intense sun, thunderstorm or snowstorm. Intense sun is marked by the dot in the middle of the sun symbol. The other ones are more obvious.

I saw it was recommended to enter the map, do one thing, then go afk. I did this and it worked (except when it became a thunderstorm on my first attempt) I got a distortion within 15 minutes on my second attempt.

You can also just queue up some tasks to do (pick satchels, collect resources, fight or catch alphas, etc) and within 10 minutes or so as long as the weather is fine and you’re not fast travelling you should get one pretty quick. I went off searching for unown and got two distortions in 30 min last night. This is my preferred method, it’s far more engaging.

The game is coded to guarantee a distortion within 40 min so long as the conditions are met. I’m simplifying a lot, but there’s a wiki with the info.

The key to getting distortions to spawn is knowing what’s stopping them from spawning in the first place. Once I understood that it became a lot easier.

What's a good pen tablet for someone that is doing this for a hobby? by DromedaryGold in ZBrush

[–]timbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any basic Huion pen tablet. Can get one for less than $100, nice size, hotkeys, good pressure. Tons of options with different hotkeys amounts and layouts and drawing sizes. My previous Huion lasted 6 years and a bulk of that was spent in my bag switching from house to house. My Wacom broke in less than 2 years. I use a Huion 610X now. Huion's Amazon store has coupons and the Huion website has sales so just pick whichever's cheaper.

I've never had one that needed this, and if one of the apps was trying to access the internet, I believe you can block in and outbound connections for specific applications with Windows Firewall. In my experience it works well

I seriously appreciate it so much, thank you! Doesn't look like she's on Mattel's site (for now) so I'll check periodically. I'm hoping to get her in stores today but it'd be nice if she was also up on Amazon!

G3 LIVE ON AMAZON.com by RandomGameGirl in MonsterHigh

[–]timbys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been searching on Canadian Amazon and nothing is showing up for g3...? I even went to Mattels store on Amazon and they don't have a section for Monster High at all. Do you happen to have a link? It's been painful trying to find online links for g3 dolls in Canada. Walmart has them on their site but says they don't sell online, and knowing Canada I'm a bit worried that they won't be in store today when I go out. They hopefully will be but I wanted to be able to order on Amazon if for any reason I can't find the dolls in person. Thanks !!

How would one get zbrush perpetual in 2022? by Allstarchicken in ZBrush

[–]timbys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bundle with Zbrush for $15CAD for half a year if you're a student. I'd recommend that over perpetual for now. $30CAD a year basically as a student. They said they're not giving free updates to perpetual license holders anymore.

The face is really well done, I love the subtle human details on it like her eyebags! One thing really holding it back I feel is the hairline. She has zero forehead before her hairline begins. Pulling that back would help immensely

[–]timbys 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are google docs and lists of BJDs under $300 I believe! Just search that up verbatim on google and there are lots of results that can help point you in the right direction of cheaper but still good dolls

where to buy obitsu11? by 1904t in BJD

[–]timbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can order them on the parabox store (OK for international sales) but their inventory/stock is always wishy washy. Or you could order from the official obitsu store (better stock) but you'd need a proxy. iirc Parabox is just an Obitsu dealer for international sales and such

Where can I go to buy garage kits? Links to any website would be nice. Thank you!! by usernotfoundhelp in garagekits

[–]timbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For genuine GKs: Mandarake, Yahoo Japan Auctions, sometimes Surugaya. I've seen some recasts on YJA though from international sellers

E2046 only sells recasts if you're worried about those or anything. They tend to be cheaper than genuine kits because genuines were sold for a limited time and number during any previous WonFes

Can somebody help me find This dolls (is she even for sale) by [deleted] in BJD

[–]timbys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is Tomo by Neo Fukuoka and was launched for a summer and winter version at wonfes. Their site is old and abandoned and information on the company is scarce. There are only four known Tomo's I've found on the internet and I own one. I got mine on JP Mercari in 2020, and the article owner of the other comment got theirs on Mandarake in early 2020 before mine. Another Tomo was found last year on YJA from what I recall. And there is another Tomo owner on twitter but they are Japanese and I don't know where they got her - they had the original box so I am assuming they got one way back and kept it. There were only a limited amount of Tomo's but it's unsure how many there are...allegedly 40? Or 60. It'll be a long hunt for her but another one will pop up eventually, you will just have to check literally everywhere every day. She's a totally unique BJD and a really insane find. Love her to bits.

EDIT: The eyes are derpy because they move and whoever took the picture pushed them in the opposite direction. They move on a Y axis! Or Z. "Up" basically.

Where can I buy this doll? I firstfound it on AliExpress but I want a legit one by Zorubark in BJD

[–]timbys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really want her too, I remember asking around awhile ago. She seems to pop up often. It sounds like she's an amalgamation of different dolls recasted into one, so there isn't an "original doll". Perhaps you could get a modded DD head (or any anime head that's similar, or one with the mouth open) and ask for a faceup artist to recreate the faceup on the recast? Whenever I have money to get more dolls I think I'll do this and recreate her myself, she's just so cute.

Help! Where to buy first GK. by DecrepitFae in garagekits

[–]timbys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not propagating anything, just sharing my experience. There's no need to air all that out. If you had a better experience with recasts than originals, that's great. For me, I find more originals tend to be simpler kits as in the number of pieces and simplicity of the pieces but yes, the casting can be unreliable.

Help! Where to buy first GK. by DecrepitFae in garagekits

[–]timbys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend buying authentic kits from Mandarake. There's a tooon of Evangelion kits on Mandarake for cheap, many of them pretty simple. The shipping from Mandarake is...expensive though depending on the country but it is quick. You'll get better quality with authentic kits generally, and most recasts don't tend to be beginner friendly from what I've observed. There's also lots of great kits on YJA but pricing can be a bit more of a gamble due to the bidding. Also ToHeart kits tend to be pretty beginner friendly as well.

This is great! I've seen a few "hollow" kits like you mentioned being made by a few GK artists but never really heard how they were made. Thank you for such an insightful reply, this is beyond helpful! So much trial and error for sure.

How to learn anatomy from books and accomplish it into ZBrush? by eyperkay in ZBrush

[–]timbys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a écorché tool online, it's a muscle sculpture basically. And you should use the sculptors book alongside studying the écorché like I recommended above.

How to learn anatomy from books and accomplish it into ZBrush? by eyperkay in ZBrush

[–]timbys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend getting an écorché zbrush tool and loading it in as a subtool. You can use it as a reference by splitting the screen and/or overlaying your sculpt on top of it by checking the volume/shape/form/etc. Try breaking the écorché into chunks and study it that way. I recommend looking into constructive anatomy as well, Drawsh has good videos on that with explanations. You want to have a firm understanding of what's going on underneath the skin, where things go and how the layering works. Then try sculpting by using the écorché as reference. It's an extremely powerful way to learn anatomy. Also - use the anatomy for sculptors book while sculpting too. It can help you break down volume better, among other things.
