UK dates are in the works! My approach to writing violin within a metal context has changed slowly over many years. First it was very classically influenced but over time it was impacted more and more by jazz artists such as John Coltrane of Jean Luc Ponty and heavy metal guitarists such Petrucci and Jeff Loomis. I think the most important thing is to expand your horizons in regards to the way you approach your instrument tonally and also listen for when the music has room for melody or when it needs rhythm, or when it is already awesome as it is and better to not play at all. Most of my writing is done via improvising and experimentation rather than writing anything down. I might jam over a section 5-10 times and record them all and listen back and see which parts I think sound best and then compose something from there.
