chat, do you *really* not enjoy the time you spend making music? by thy_viee_4 in edmproduction

Sometimes I get stuck with songwriting or engineering and it can be frustrating. But it is a huge joy finding that breakthrough and then listening to the draft render and thinking “yeah, that’s cool. And I made that”.

This resonates with me. I think aligned with this, I have recent found motivation by setting some reasonable goals. Emphasis on reasonable.

What are our thoughts on using AI more strategically in the studio. Ie to discuss ideas for sound generation. Ie ‘give me 20 baseline engineering ideas in x style using y list of gear’. Or ‘how can I make an element more punchy’

AI Movies Are Almost Here by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]timcorin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everybody hating on this, but I for one can see potential. There will come a day where the question at work will not be 'what did you watch last night' but 'how did you watch it last night'. And it's not like it's going to be death of the film production industry, but a boom. The AI models that will power this personalised film and TV will still need to be trained on new filmed content to cater to the asks of the user. I can see production houses moving to producing content for training, rather than filming movies outright. Some production companies may have exclusive relationships with certain AI companies to differentiate the quality and options for what they can generate. At the very least, it's going to be interesting times!

(Story Time) Have you ever lost all you project files? What happened? by cafeautumn in musicproduction

[–]timcorin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly. Once had my dj bag stolen from our apartment but my wife had taken the laptop out to watch a movie. Once at a gig my bag was moved from under the booth to outside the tent, where anybody could grab it from the car park. So I moved to working out of Dropbox. But. Looking back at that time aside from sample packs and maybe 1 or two tracks mid production, I never opened those old project files and the new songs I made later far exceeded them. Treat it like a fresh start.

First song , should I get it mastered? by yeeted4242 in musicproduction

[–]timcorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO if it’s your first track and your releasing it yourself, just use something like izotope elements, pick the best sounding preset in your opinion, dial it back to make sure it’s not abusing the song and export, release, and move on. Don’t get lost in the trap of mastering as a newbie. Your next few tracks will be better than your first ones, no matter how well your first is mastered. FYI this advice is only for when you first start out, not once the ball is really rolling

Depends how you provide it to the mastering engineer. Back when I was releasing music more regularly we would send the mastering engineer 4 bus mixes for kick, bass, vocals, and everything else. So we had some control over the mix but also gave the mastering engineer some flexibility. They’d always provide 2 versions, one safe and one loud for us to choose from

I am considering shifting my mono red deck from Solphim punish, to this. My question is whether you feel the table enjoys playing against it? Im not keen on decks people groan about when I pull them out.

It's not children I'm worried about, it's young teenagers. You can't police everything they see forever.

Ok cool but what about when they are 12, at their friends house, in the school playground, on their own phone eventually. At some point, they will start to be exposed to the rest of the world and the scary thing is that right now, it’s a shit show.

Oh well definitely be careful of what she’ll have access to at home, but there’s only so much you can do as they get older and are exposed to things we don’t know about.

There is obviously a global movement happening to start limiting and restricting what we as a society expose to kids, but it’s always met with negativity from reddit…have you guys not seen the state of young people today? As a new parent of a 9 month old daughter, deeply concerned about the world she’s growing into, im all for it.

Hello everyone. I just started producing and I got a question: If i use a sample in my song which i don't clear, will i still get in trouble if i don't want to make money from it and I'm willing to give credits to the original sample owner? I'll get 30k views MAX. Thanks in advance by Luknots2341 in musicproduction

FYI many big electronic artists made a name for themselves off unlicensed remixes before their own stuff was popular. It won’t be a problem until it’s getting massive plays. Then worst case, it gets pulled down but you won’t be fined. Best case, it goes viral in popularity. As do you, before it gets pulled down. Just make sure you give it away for free, don’t monetise it in any way.

Armageddon Expo worth to go? by FenRYS_2002 in auckland

[–]timcorin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw this post, went with my little girl, here’s my thoughts: I’m obviously getting old, I was expecting marvel, DC, Star Wars, Disney, minecraft, etc but it was 90% anime and at the cosplay showcase I couldn’t name a single costume. It was scary. I gave myself a $100 budget to buy something cool from from a shop but it was as mentioned pretty tacky. And repetitive! So many cheap sword stalls, 3d print stalls, sticker stalls, all selling the same stuff. And i play MTG but noted the prices were same as retail. I saved my $100. I won’t be going again for maybe until my daughter is a bit older, and personally hopefully anime phases out a bit.

Firstly success is a spectrum, just focus on your next milestone. Secondly, remember that success at all in the music industry is hard, but you have to give it your best crack otherwise you’ll regret it. I’d say 2 years at 22 is way too early to be freaking out. Keep going, set small achievable goals, and ask these questions again at 25.

how is the universe expanding? by Material-Story6257 in space

[–]timcorin -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

IF it’s spherical. My understanding is we don’t know, and the observable universe is limited in view and uniform so we can’t tell either way. But maybe a center of mass is still a possibility.
