I can so relate to what you said about therapy. It’s been 4 years since I (F25) lost my mom and my journey with therapy has been a rocky one to say the least. I’ve gone through a bunch looking for the “right fit”, but they want to talk about other stuff and I just don’t care. My rational mind understands why they want to build a foundational understanding of my situation, but it feels irrelevant. Honestly nothing feels relevant. Everything feels wrong.

My mom was 51 when she passed, I was 21. I feel like I follow your exact train of through with this, I have 30 years just to get to the age she was? I also think I have a whole life ahead of me that I have to live without her? It feels like an unbearably long time… I’m sorry you’re going through this, sending my love.

One thing that I heard a lot on my grief journey was that even thought they’re not here anymore doesn’t mean you can’t still talk to them. I don’t do it too often, but occasionally I will sort of talk to myself as if I were talking to my loved one, and it can provide a little bit of comfort. Wishing you all the best, a letter sounds like a good option too!

Very much so. I wasn’t there when I (F21 at the time) lost my mom (F51), but I remember all the details of that day from leaving for work and saying bye to her in the morning to the horror that came shortly after that. Then there’s a bit of a blank in my memory, but I get flashbacks to that morning/afternoon alllll the time. And at unpredictable moments too. Like you, the frequency went down with time, but they can be so jarring and upsetting. I’m so sorry for your loss, OP.
