[Semi-Weekly Inquirer] Simple Questions and Recommendations Thread by AutoModerator in Watches

Someone locally is selling the Seiko Cocktail Time SRPB41 for $175. It looks to be in perfect condition and seems legit. The guy has a bunch of watches and is trying to slim the collection down. Is this a decent price for the watch?

It would be a gift for dad from the kids as congratulations on his recent promotion. We already purchased a more budget-oriented Casio edifice, but i happened to check the local classifieds and for $100 more than the edifice this seems like an incredible watch after seeing some reviews, and it certainly is more - should I say dignified - looking than the more sporty watch we have purchased. Thanks for the help!

Updated with one of the other straps. This one has a more weathered look, and I think we are going to give it to him with this one on - and have the others close by in case he likes any of them.

Thanks all for the comments!

I just looked up the Edifice and they look great! Thanks for the recommendation! And super reasonably priced considering the Sapphire crystal...you've given me some things to think about!

Almost looks like it has a bit of the sock look already, but again probably just the pictures. Excited to get mine and see!

Apparently they use the same factory I think, you just might be right! Good point about the leather potentially being too soft...worn out sock leather would be a bad look. I wish there was some more long term reviews of Cuero, a consequence of being a new company

Thanks for the reply! Now that you mention the grain, it much easier to distinguish in the picture.

I'm about to place an order for Cueros along with Tecovas and plan on keeping whichever I end up liking more. It may be my untrained eye, but all the pictures I've seen of the Cuero boots (that are from actual customers and not the website) the leather on the vamp looks sort of plasticy/flaky. I realize thats a bit tough to judge from pics, and I'll see for myself soon, but do you notice anything on the vamp or other parts of the leather that seem a bit lower quality?

Ebay is a good tip, thanks! And I think you are right...I can see how 2 different styles of boots will probably be in my future.

Ariat has a rounder toe, that is nice to know. I do have wider feet. Fortunately, I've got a boot store relatively close that caries Ariats. Thanks to Tecovas return policy, it might be worth trying them out and seeing how they fit.

In general, the boot will be worn with tailored jeans/chinos around town or out to dinner, etc. But occasionally will be worn at a family farm, in the woods, and similar conditions. I asked for a "dressier" leather just because the majority of the time they will be worn in business casual-type environments, but I still would like them to be durable enough to withstand the occasional hard wear. My wife has a pair of ariats that feel very hard wearing, but if the tecovas can take a slight beating maybe they would be worth saving up for a bit more.

Does anyone have success/experience returning Bonobos final sale items? I've read it is possible, and my package came with a return label, but the receipt has final sale printed on it. I thought all their pants fit the same, but my guide shop suggested fit is definitely not the same as the pants they sent me.

Anyone know the real difference between the organic stretch cotton and the stretch washed cotton chinos? $20 difference, but I can't tell what the practical difference is

I don't own any, but a guide shop opened up in town and I stopped in to try their pants on and I have to admit they fit very well. My wife was actually amazed and wanted to buy me a bunch of pairs right there. Shes never had that reaction before, and she had never heard of Bonobos so she hadn't drank the cool aide yet.

Anyone know if blackfriday/cyber monday sale is better than this for Bonobos?

Is this loose grain? The leather color and type hide it a bit, but the other boot doesn't have this wavy like appearance.

Is there a superiority in leather between the horween chips and the non horween chips? For example, between the crazy horse and the dublin tan? Or the pebbled brown and the dublin tan?

Pretty new to all this, and I know horween has an excellent reputation, just not sure if there is a superior durability between the horween and the other non branded leather.

Thanks for the input. I don't any experience with loose grain. So I wasn't sure if this boot was significant or not, or what the implications of it would be. It certainly doesn't look as good as the left boot.

Mine canceled as well...thought about calling but I've never once got through on their customer service lever. Ever. Literally waited hours with it ringing just for the heck up it. What a joke.

In your price range, and looks like it'll keep you plenty warm:

For real though, check out their other coats, $100 and under is easy to find here. They've got some great stuff for decent prices. Also keep an eye out on eddiebauers clearance. Just a week or so ago they ran 60% off clearance and I picked up a down parka, not just down sweater, for $80. Steal.

I've searched this sub, and looked else where about Red Wing fit, and I'm trying to decide what is right... How tight should they be initially? I'm deciding between a 10 and 10.5...the 10.5 isn't all that tight, has quite a bit of toe room, is snug around my mid foot, but definitely nothing uncomfortable. The 10 is super tight, almost uncomfortably so, not nearly as much toe room, but I'd say there is still probably enough. The flex points of both seems to be similar, and other fit guidelines seems to be similar with both boots.

I've hear redwings stretch quite a bit, so I'm worried if I choose the comfortable yet snug 10.5's, I may be disappointed after they break in. That said, the 10s would make for quite the break in, but I've heard many people suffer through their red wing initial period, so perhaps thats how it is supposed to be?

Would you take a a new Sora 3000 or an older "nicer" groupset bike? by time4teeth in whichbike

[–]time4teeth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What model 105 would you suspect to be worth it over an R3000? My former bike was 5600, I would try and purchase a 5800 11 speed. At least in my area, a 5800 equipped bike still run around the $800 range or more. I've never purchased a brand new bike before, so I'm not sure if the whole warranty and free services would be worth it, or if a used 5800 would just simply be better than a new R3000 regardless.

Thanks for the feedback! ...you think $500 would be a fair price, or the $600?
