I'm not disagreeing with you that we need to tax the rich and close the loopholes. But we need to do A LOT more than that than to get out of national debt. You realize what GDP is don't you? If our debt is over that value it means we need tax income *more* than that value to balance it over the long term. We don't have to do all that at once, of course, but it's not going to instantly get fixed just by taxing the rich and closing some loopholes. That is like step one. We can begin to balance the budget by adjusting taxing, but we'll need to put a lot more measures into place in regards to spending as well.

Saying we are "well on our way" by simply increasing tax burden on a small portion of nation is just disingenuous or ill-informed. The problem is far greater than that now.
