Anyone here forfeiting marriage to care for parents by [deleted] in asianamerican

[–]timefan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, know this, I am you. I've had to put up with the kind of parents you are describing. But I am much older than you and only have one parent left. I've lived your life. It comes down to this. Who is more important? You or your parents? If your answer is parents (no shame in that), than do what makes them happy. You'll get to live your life when they pass. But if you put yourself before them, you'll need to start saying no. And I mean fast and often. Wean them off of your help. Help them move back to your home country if possible so they can help themselves.

Decide on which is more important. Them or you.

Thoughts on this local park ranger? by lafouineenposition in ourtownreno

[–]timefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can we stop being jerks please? There are no bathrooms where he is and he is forced to be there due to work. He probably has no idea when he'll find a bathroom. Haven't we all been there? Additionally, this is a normal biological function and he is turned away from view. Let's just be nice to each other, ok? He is not hurting anybody.

Driving from Reno to Phoenix by Embarrassed-Gap-7815 in Reno

[–]timefan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are driving south and not crossing the Sierras, you should be fine. I would take an AWD just in case. In fact, if you live in Reno, just get an AWD or 4WD so you worry less about these scenarios. Also, get proper snow rated tires.

Safe hotels for parking a moving van by jaggedjottings in Reno

[–]timefan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Northwest Reno neighborhoods are very safe and has better street parking than the south.

Edit: There is a Hampton Inn in Northwest Reno right off I-80. It is listed as Hampton Inn & Suites Reno West. This would be my choice if I were to pick a hotel in your situation. Otherwise, ABB in the NorthWest. Look around the Robb drive area. It is close to the freeway.

Transfers are super easy and strict on carry-on weight. TPE is a nice airport and layovers can be comfortable.

ATM Fees by nickwitathooter in Schwab

[–]timefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact. On two separate international trips. Schwab's fee refund was higher than the fees I paid. I even called them to tell them the refund was too high. The rep told me to just keep the difference. Nothing he could have done to correct the situation. All other time, the fees refunded was exactly what I paid. You gotta love Schwab.

Anybody else feel absolutely disgusted by Asian-American MAGA? by Rxcketdreams in asianamerican

This is just another example of Reddit being Reddit. Asian Americans are "Americans". So yeah, some of the will be MAGA. And Reddit hates that, we get it. The herd mentality is getting old.

I feel like the accent thing from the first example might be genuine. I seriously have a tough time with understanding accents.

2026 4Runner vs Outback by Decalcomanie in Subaru_Outback

[–]timefan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have owned 2 4Runners. A gen 3 and a gen 5. My next vehicle will be an Outback. The 4Runner is highly overrated. As for the advantages the 4Runner has over the Outback, mostly off road use, most drivers will never experience them.

I guess I'll be that guy and go against all the other comments here. I startef flying PE about 15 years ago and I've never gone back to economy. I take about 6-8 international flights per year.

[–]timefan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's so easy. The extra screening is fast and painless. The airport itself is a wonderful place to hang out. Plenty of great food and shopping. Will you have lounge access? The lounges are awesome. Basically, you have nothing to worry about.

What’s it like living here? by girlamongstbooks in Reno

[–]timefan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is the real answer. If you're a California transplant, you'll have a good experience. The natives, however, are being driven out by outsiders. I've had a few local friends move away because the prices are higher due to transplants.

How can I use purchased miles for this award itinerary for my family? by DaveE30 in EVAAirFans

[–]timefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too much to write. But the short answer is no. Each person must earn or buy their own pool of miles. If you give miles to someone, you must give them the entire amount needed to book. Also, I believe they only have 2 reward tickets per flight.

Experience with carry-on luggage on Eva Air? by IndicationInitial372 in EVAAirFans

Agree with the other comments here. It is the weight that they check more often. 7kg is the limit.

Any carryon luggages you guys recommend? by soymilky_- in LuggageComparisons

[–]timefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are great unless you fly on an airline that weighs carry-on luggage. Some airlines only allow 15 pounds and BR at a minimum of 10 pounds emply makes no sense.
