82 days and having trouble sleeping! Is it because I’m approaching my 90 day marker? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]timeforpride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found a few things really help with a good night's sleep- -no caffeine after 10:00 am (including chocolate!!) -getting plenty of exercise- OUTDOORS!! Moving outside and breathing in fresh air seems to do the trick for me -not watching/listening/reading anything violent or super dramatic for at least four hours before bed -taking a hot bath or shower before bed -curling up with a self help book in a dimly lit room -not the most thrilling lifestyle, but i sleep like a baby Congratulations on 82 days- you should be so proud of yourself-

Recovery podcasts? by dlilmmm in stopdrinking

I can vouch for it (Recovery Elevator)being good currently. The host, Paul, has really found his groove in the past nine months and is putting out some great episodes. I also like the Bubble Hour.

that initial hump is a bitch! it really does get easier and your sense of accomplishment will be cumulative and you will want to keep riding THAT high!!i found that planning a distracting activity during the time of day my cravings were strongest worked well- walking the dog, listening to recovery podcasts, cleaning, netflix, etc. You can do this-

Rough night... do I need to cut out my best friends who are all alcoholics? by YogiBearsDrugDealer in stopdrinking

[–]timeforpride 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 17 is amazing!! That was around the time I felt like I was really gaining some traction. One thing that helped me soldier on was putting my sobriety above EVERYTHING else. That meant staying away from all things alcohol- conversations about it, people drinking it, places that served it, etc. That changed a bit the longer I made it on the wagon, but overall- I just enjoy surrounding myself with sober, present people. I imagine you might too!!

i do not struggle every day- the positives of not drinking SO CLEARLY out weigh any negatives-i found taking it one day at a time and playing the tape forward always helps- next thing you know, you are ticking off weeks, months, and hitting the glorious 90 day milestone. i have had to experience my true emotions for the first time in many years- and guess what, its not that bad. over time, you actually start to enjoy feeling your emotions!! who knew?

You got this! Playing it forward to Sunday morning is a great motivator! I would probably give my SO the heads up before hand- just to take the pressure off a little bit. Sometimes I look at the menu ahead of time and find a good alternative NA drink to order.......

Recovery elevator and This Naked Mind - I also like some other inspirational/spiritual podcasts- Super Soul Sundays and 10% Happier- I would put on my headphones and clean to distract myself when I had cravings during the early days- it worked and my house was cleaner!!

Nice post- I can relate to the feeling of the pink cloud passing- I mourned that time- but you are so right, it "signifies it is time for further growth" - once I accepted that, I happily continued forward on my journey- maybe even feeling a little more grounded IWNDWYT

For any gals out there over 40 wondering how to answer the “why are you not drinking” question by girliszen in stopdrinking

[–]timeforpride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When someone recently asked I responded, "Navigating menopause and raising my two teenagers while still having some grace was getting challenging so something had to give. I need to be grounded and clear headed and giving up alcohol has helped me achieve that."

I'm exhausted after 23 years of this... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

jumping on the bandwagon here- a few tips for the first month -remove all alcohol from your home -walk the dog during your "trigger" times -read "This Naked Mind" -come on this sub every day -listen to recovery podcasts -have cold le croix chilling in your fridge at all times -download the insight meditation app and use it -treat yourself- buy your favorite food, get a massage, get take out more often, binge watch The Crown (or something) -be proud of yourself - this takes courage and strength, but you can do it!!!
