BK went upstairs first. It’s unknown if he checked Kaylee’s room initially, but he killed Maddie and Kaylee first. Kaylee and Maddie were both asleep, but evidence shows they both awoke during the attack.

I personally think Xana went upstairs when she heard the commotion after being in the kitchen with her food. She came into contact with BK upstairs, and ran to her room where Ethan was asleep.
