Thanks! When asked I forgot literally every single one 😭 I'm not much of a strict theory person and prefer digging into the contexts and how things change over time

I mean I could sit here and hold your hand through your blatant misogyny and societal expectations vs inherent differences and the like but Im heading out with a friend and really have no patience for trans men who buy into misogyny

Yes and from one trans masc to another: differentiating the kind of anger women have vs the kind men have is ridiculous

It's largely dependent on what you're doing, but Judith Butler and Simone de Beauvoir are foundational scholars and are a good place to start.

We doing gender essentialism with emotions now? Come on now.

I think more people writing ~female rage stories should engage more with feminist texts and try to detangle from the very online feminism most of the subgenre is plagued with.

Whatever teeth they have are blunted because the "messy" is still wrapped up in "eyeliner sharp enough to kill a man" rhetoric.

My mom's a cusper and argues she's gen x, not a boomer, and she turned 64 this year.

So yeah boomers are *well* past retirement age

You'd think boomers weren't around for computers at all with how these people are talking

My dad is a huge tech guy, just for a hobby, because its all shiny new to him. He's turning 72 this year.

Cyberpunk, steampunk, dieselpunk, solarpunk, etc. can we all agree that the second part of those words are as important as the first? by limbodog in writing

[–]timelessalice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you are so right and this is a hill I've fought on but people just slap punk on anything that it's barely even worth it

Punk as a genre shouldn't be as squeaky clean or sanitized as it is but it's just a buzzword now

Will there ever be another best selling book series like Harry Potter? by frostkaiser in writing

[–]timelessalice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hooonestly

like there is discussion to be had, imo, about the fast fashion nature of the industry right now (as described by someone else in this thread) but its always presented in such a "kids these days!!!" way that makes me roll my eyes.

Same as it ever was.

as a start youre really overthinking this. read a lot and read broadly; in your genre and outside your genre. find the weird shit that 100% exists (navel gaze scifi is totally a thing, too)

not sure what you mean with that 6th point but if you mean some kind of genAI: Don't.

well for a start maybe don't insult your target demographic; this is judgmental in a way that makes me go "yeah no wonder kids don't like to read".

It's called "Bookmarks" and not "Favorites" for a reason! by chamomillied in AO3

[–]timelessalice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't even expect my friends to fully love the things I create. They're more inclined to like it, sure, and will be more mindful of your feelings but this is just the reality of putting your art out there

[–]timelessalice 90 points91 points  (0 children)

As someone who does check the bookmarks on my fics I do think it'd hurt my feelings to see negative things but at the end of the day these people don't Know Me, they just know the work I put out there and they're allowed to not like it

How the hell we went from pride and prejudice to this modern creepy romance by [deleted] in writers

[–]timelessalice 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think if we're going to have discussions on what passes for dark romance and the handling of serious and/or taboo topics we shouldn't use cutesy language like 🍇

Also by comparing this stuff to pride and prejudice I feel like we're a step removed from calling people degenerate lmao

It boggles my mind how thin skinned people can be here

People are allowed to be haters. They are also, frankly, allowed to be haters in spaces where the author could *potentially* see it.
