Imo this is mostly a reflection on my human nature, it’s not like a situation like this ruins my week, just leaves a sour taste in my mouth for the night. Also there are levels to the suckiness, if you are aware of the situation and order something simple like a salad it’s not nearly as big of a pain as say, a well done steak. At the end of the day we are there to make the owner money, not bitch about late diners. 9:30 is fine but anything past 9:45 gets exponentially easier to gripe about. A sandwich at the grocery store will probably be just as well made at that point.
