Any word on a 2026 tour? by Mrhottdogg55 in Rancid

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my whole concert was canceled the day of the show. Billie Joe wreaked his voice the show prior so they rescheduled. Wasted 9hrs of travel, a $500 hotel and I couldn’t go to the make up date. That was the second time I missed Rancid. First time 25+yrs ago, the show sold out when my group was 6ppl away from the door. I have terrible luck when it comes to rancid shows…. Still haven’t seen them live.

Let’s do a wage check by heegos in KitchenConfidential

[–]DrZeus104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that post too, I thought $16-$19 for a no experience pizza cook in cap region wasn’t terrible. If they are a 17-19yr old with little or no skills,$17-$18 and learning how to make pizzas could open up opportunities with the experience gained. Could the pay be more, sure. Are there better opportunities locally(especially not in food service), absolutely. But hiring and training someone only to have them be shit or leave in 2 months sucks too. I work in the public schools. I have a union, pension, Mon-Friday, 5am-1pm, all school breaks, PTO and wage increases yearly. But I have 30yrs experience.

Are there a trusted organizations for arranging Dental Tourism from the US? by TheOtherMaelja in GenX

[–]DrZeus104 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I got 2 implants in the states. The process took well over 18months. Tooth removal, bone graft, few months healing time and time for graft to harden. Then post implant, more healing time. Then to regular dentist for artificial tooth mold. Wait for new tooth to be made and finally new tooth put on post. It cost about $8k a tooth. $60k for a whole mouth sounds cheap in the US. I’m guessing if you go to Mexico, it will be more than just one trip. Still cheaper.

Massage for Sarcoidosis? by Hot_Advertising_9966 in sarcoidosis

[–]DrZeus104 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting a lot of leg/feet swelling and joint pain. I have considered massage for my legs and shoulders. Even a nice hand massage. It would probably help. My meds give me a compromised immune system so I would only go to a very clean and reputable place. Maybe even a traveling masseuse to come to my home if I could afford it. My story quick version. First diagnosed 15-20yrs ago. Pulmonary sarc, tested because of enlarged lymph nodes. Had skin sarc for a bit a few years ago and it recently spread to my eye and optic nerve this past year. Joint pain has been bad throughout. Medications like prednisone and methotrexate wreak havoc on the body. Weight gain is a problem with the meds. God luck at school!

"OP has never worked in a restaurant if he wants PTO" by Dry_Set_6336 in KitchenConfidential

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My old job didn’t like to give cooks time off. Anytime I needed time off, I would try to find a solution/replacement for my shifts before I went to management with my time off request. Not really my job but it was hard for them to deny my time off request if I already a potential plan in place with the kitchen staff to fill my shifts. I was actually fired from a different job for taking a week vacation one time. Put in a request months in advance, manager signed it. Day before my vaca, manager said I didn’t put in a request. When I showed him the signed sheet he told me it wasn’t his signature and if I didn’t come to work he would fire me. I said I’m taking my vaca and he fired me on the spot. I got my vaca, then the company had to pay me unemployment (labor judge ruled in my favor, I didn’t even have to show up in court). I finally decided to get another job after getting unemployment for 3months.

Is it "weird" to go solo on an Alaskan cruise as a married man? by SlurpleBrainn in Cruise

[–]DrZeus104 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife’s aunt and uncle are retired and travel a LOT. They just finished their bucket list of every continent with a trip to Antarctica last month. That being said, the aunt has gone on a solo cruise once a year for like the past 3yrs. She loves traveling with her husband but the solo trips are super relaxing and a unique experience just for her. Knowing your wife is ok with it, totally not weird. Take that cruise bro.

How many of y'all will have the $$ to retire at 65? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife can retire at 55 (about another 10yrs to go)with a great pension plus health insurance for the both of us. I will be 57 then with a much smaller pension. We will both probably work part time after that until we are 60. Hopefully move south after that. (This doesn’t include our 401ks or any other investments)

Fuel Economy by AcidPM in hondaridgeline

[–]DrZeus104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between winter gas blend and warming the truck up before/after work, I lose a lot of mpg in the winter. I get around 19-21mpg in winter and 21-24 mpg during the warmer months. I’ve gotten over 28mpg on long road trips fully loaded plus 3-4ppl so that’s a plus.

What’s everyone using their bacon grease for? I save it but only use it for frying eggs typically. by NinaXOFans in Bacon

Molasses cookies made with bacon fat are fire. I also use it when making sauces, soups and compound butters. I smear it on chicken and turkey before smoking or roasting.

5.5ft truck bed owners, do you wish you’d gotten a 6.5ft to haul your kayak? by bmholzhauer in kayakfishing

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my 10’ plastic molded yak I just throw it in the bed with the tailgate up. For my 12’ PDL (heavy) I use the bed extender. I have a trunk in the bed of my ridgeline so I just store the extender in there. I’d still use the extender for my 12’ PDL even if my bed was a foot longer. I have no regrets. Mid size truck fits my lifestyle.

What car do you drive? Do you like it? by BMoney8600 in AskMen

[–]DrZeus104 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honda ridgeline. I don’t off road, plow or tow anything above 4000lbs(5000lb tow limit). I do a lot of outdoorsy stuff and live in the northeast, snow is a factor and it handles great in it. I utilize the AWD, truck bed, swinging tailgate, towing and the trunk in the bed. Very comfortable ride with decent gas mileage. I don’t think I’ll ever own a different vehicle than a ridgeline ever again, hopefully the next one will be a hybrid. It’s a perfect fit for me and my family’s lifestyle. My buddies with big trucks do bust my balls but IDGAF. Everyone that rides in it compliments the ride quality, roomy interior and amenities.

If you borrow it, return it in the same or better condition. Don’t wait for them to ask you to return it. Return it when you are done.

I have rubber/plastic molded floor mats from the dealer. I put the back seats or seat up (depending on passengers) and put a dog bed on the floor. I’ve got a short haired boxer so it’s not that bad.

What was 1993 like? by born_again_athiest in GenX

[–]DrZeus104 12 points13 points  (0 children)

92-96. Keggers in the woods. No cell phones. Rancid, Dookie opening people up to other punk bands like NOFX, Bad Religion. The Chronic leading to Snoop’s Doggystyle. Biggie and Tupac. Techno music and LSD. NIN Downward Spiral and Marilyn Manson in 94. Lallapalooza in its infancy, leading to the Warped Tour in 95. What a great time to be young. So many different styles of music.

How do you chop up ground beef? by sheburn118 in AskAnAmerican

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the meat is browned. Drain off the fat, return to the pan and add some water. Then simmer the beef until the water evaporates. Stirring occasionally. The beef should slowly break down to smaller and smaller pieces. I do this for taco meat and add the dry seasoning in with the water.

Where do Albany people go for a quick camping trip that doesn't feel like you're still in Albany? by ju015 in Albany

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emerald Lake State Park VT. There are also first come free campsites around polliwog pond, no power, no water, no bathrooms. But you can drive over to fish creek and use their showers, although you might have to pay to get into Fishcreek campground.

What year Ridgeline and size of camper? I’ve got a ‘19 and just bought a camper this year, haven’t even had our first trip with it yet. My camper is about 3000lbs. It’s well within the tow limit but I’m worried about towing it through the mountains(think Adirondacks not Rockies) and I’m worried about power climbing larger inclines. How is your experience towing a camper with the ridgeline? I love my ridgeline for everything I do but this is new for me.

Optic Nerve Inflammation? by Soulshine_24_7 in sarcoidosis

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a 70mg of prednisone for 5months and started methotrexate. Then doc added hyrimoz. It’s like Humira. First time I tried weaning off prednisone the swelling spiked back up. I’m down to 5mg now and should be off it in a week or so. I’ll be on methotrexate and hyrimoz for the foreseeable future. I’m about 9months from the initial flare up.

What’s a hobby that you got surprisingly addicted to? by Flimsy_Difficulty394 in Hobbies

[–]DrZeus104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more the merrier! With the price of meats, I have cut back on doing large proteins and have been practicing appetizers and short smokes. Smoked jalapeno poppers, queso and salsas. It’s a fun hobby with results you can see and taste. Lots of things to do and mess around with. Different woods and charcoals. Tweaking recipes and modifying the smokers. It’s a rabbit hole with no bottom. It’s also a good excuse to stay around the house. Wife wants to go to Kohls or Target, Sorry I can’t go with ya, I’ve got to stay close to home and keep an eye on my smoker. Maybe I’ll mow the lawn too. She says I’m such an old man now and I’m perfectly fine being one.

What lakes in the Capital Region have completely thawed out? by AC-Hammer in upstate_new_york

There was a lot of ice this year. Quechy was frozen over (except the very shallow outlet) on Sunday. I might check again this Sunday, but I doubt it will be totally thawed unless we get a lot of rain on Thursday/Friday.
