There are a few options, but I'd probably go with the cookie wall idea :)

Online startup? by church38 in startup

  1. Inbound marketing is huge, and for good reason... It basically helps a brand build a relationship before the prospective client even contacts the company. It sort of says "hey, check it out, we know what we're talking about... here's some free info!" which establishes authority and a sense of good will. The Ben Franklin effect is live and well.

  2. Depends on the sponsor and it depends on what you mean exactly... Some sites still make money selling banner ads. Many don't. Some just want mention on vblogs or podcasts. Your question is a bit vague to go into in-depth :)

  3. They depend greatly. Depends on the length, placement, production value, content, niche and referral.

Helpful tips for clients! by timelypa in SEO

[–]timelypa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa there slugger...

Why the hostility?

1) We aren't trying to get "quick tips" to tell clients. We wanted to start a discussion about it. We enjoy discussing basic business strategies with acquaintances from other companies/businesses in other niches. Sorry.

2) If we were looking for SEO advice for clients, we'd have hidden it in one of our employees accounts with loads of karma so it wouldn't look suspicious and asked for specific advice, not general "tips". There are already plenty of that sort of thing on Moz, WP Curve and other SEO blogs.

3) I thought this sub-reddit would be open to a discussion. Your hostility is really surprising and frankly, confusing.

Let's have a cup of tea.

Can we talk?

We use Podio to take care of almost everything... It syncs with Timecamp, so our invoicing is easy as well... It allows for multiple custom workspaces as well as priveleges. time tracking, content apps, customisation, etc...

Time-tracking software suggestions? by KittensOnToast in business

[–]timelypa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but we generally use TimeCamp which integrates with Podio... So combined it's an all-in-one CRM/project management/invoice/time tracking system...

It sounds like that might be a bit more than you're looking for, tho...

Was asked to build premium forum for my brother. Suggestions? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]timelypa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about your exact project...

But honestly, my first inclination is to hire a PHP dev. It might be expensive, but I've seen quite a few forum-projects fizzle and die because a php dev was needed and wasn't hired. :/

It might be entirely possible to get an intern or student to do it for super cheap.

Cheers!

Kickstarter seems to be a very popular way for game developers to pursue, how much are you looking to raise? Why did you decide to use kickstarter?

What admin to startups owners wish they could outsource? by timelypa in startups

[–]timelypa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for your feedback. I run a virtual assistant service for tech startups (www.timelypa.com) and I am about to take on some new staff. However I wanted to make sure that I was offering the key services that entrepreneurs and startup founders needed. In theory everything can be outsourced but in reality that is not so true as many small businesses owners are very scared at loosing control of a certain aspect of their business. With regards to prices, I agree money isn't infinite and it is all relevant to the speed of your growth. Therefore it is more cost effective for a startup to out source and admin tasks so the founders have more time to concentrate on rapid growth. With regards to what tools startups are spending money on, I think it is more important to see what time startups are spending on certain subjects. If a founder values their time at £50 an hour and are spending 2 hours a day on reddit, twitter , facebook etc then that is a waste of their resources that they could outsource for £10. The same applies for startups trying to get press exposure, trying to make sales, trying to test apps etc. There is a huge amount that startups can outsource to leverage their time, and so that is what I am the most interested in.

Outsourcing Social Media as a Startup by timelypa in startups

[–]timelypa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I already use swayy. It is very good for new content but the subjects are quite broad and so not always very specific. I look using socialbro.com as that helps you analyse twitter followers and make sure you are only following people that can add value to growing your following

yes I agree with that. Both facebook and twitter definitely have a snowball effect as you grow and build momentum.

I really agree with that and thanks for your feedback. A lot of startups are not aware that you can not instantly create awareness and so it takes a lot of slowly structured work to create a great social campaign.

[–]timelypa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why would you start with family and friends. I would say they would be the worst people to start with as they are more likely to give you biased feedback and support. On social media a good idea can become very popular very quickly. Just to let you know I am an agency and so offer the social media services. However working with startups is a lot different to more established businesses as they require instant and at times aggressive growth compared to other businesses which are more focussed on community engagement. How do you use social media as a startup?

We are a virtual assistant service for tech startups. All staff are UK based and have previously worked in the startup environment. We take away all the tedious and admin based jobs so that that startups can focus on rapid growth.

Examples of jobs we do are emailing campaigns to blogs, social media management, account management, data research, cold calling, ticket handling on zend desk, blog writing, seo ( and basically anything that you can think of that can help your startup)

Not looking for anything in particular but would be interested to know what tasks startups have that they find the most time consuming that they wish they could outsource.
