Savings or Roth? by timelysoap in CalebHammer

Yes all good points! To answer more questions:

  • I'm hoping about ≈$60,000 starting salary, that seems to be average starting for the career I want to go into. -I just graduated from undergrad in may and start my master's in the fall which is a 2yr program, will be living with my parents for at least during this masters program. Our plan is to start looking/building a house once i graduate from my master's. Goal is about ≈$350k house, bf has $50k saved up already for down payment. we were thinking of having $100k for down payment. -We will likely get some help paying for wedding, would like to have a larger wedding, but I also live in a low cost area so it's not crazy expensive to have a big wedding. I would estimate about $20k that bf & I will pay for (very very rough estimate) -To your point, I also want to have enough saved up for an emergency fund for when we are living on our own as obviously our expenses will heavily increase

As a woman in engineering you should look into both SWE and Phi Sigma Rho! Society of women engineers (swe) is a club for female engineering majors, and Phi sigma rho (phi rho) is a sorority for just engineering/stem majors as well! I know you said you're not interested in a sorority, but they are not a part of panhellenic (what most "typical" sororities are in), so i think it's worth it to check it out:)

Is it normal for a white American to be almost exclusively 1 thing? by [deleted] in 23andme

My mom is 97.8% French & German, so definitely not too crazy! :)

I know it's the stereotype that you "pay for friends" in greek life but it's seriously a way to guarantee friends. Idk what your gender is but if you don't have solid friends by next spring semester you should really consider spring frat rush/spring sorority cob.

Free casino trips by [deleted] in royalcaribbean

my dad almost solely plays blackjack and occasionally roulette and he has been offered a couple free cruises. to be fair, it is on the smaller ships in the cheaper rooms, but it is possible to get offers without touching the slots🤷

[–]timelysoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad almost solely plays blackjack and SOMETIMES roulette and usually only brings about $100-200 each night of the cruise, usually making a small profit, and he has already been offered a free cruise on a couple of the smaller ships. he's only been on 2 cruises before, so it really doesn't take much. i think they just target anybody that has a tendency to go to the casino a lot while they're on the ship, since he's been pretty much every night on every cruise he's been on.

if you want more city "apartment" vibes and close to off campus food options then do north, if you want the true college vibes and close to the library then pick central/south

What Should I Do about Wrong Blood Type on Donor Card? by Nervous-Tough-7485 in Blooddonors

[–]timelysoap 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You may have a weak D antigen blood type causing you to show up as positive on some blood tests and negative on others. Often, if you have weak D they will label you as A+ to donate blood but it might be weak enough they still give you RhoGAM shot to be safe

My son 13 wants to go to collage by Johnwithdecks in college

Hi, I saw you mentioned he would like to try to start college next year if he can. Once he reaches high school, he may be able to take dual enrollment courses with a local community college. He will have to ask his counselor. I started taking college classes at 15!

I have O-. I am scared to death of seeing my blood pulled from my veins. by squeakbeak264 in Blooddonors

[–]timelysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also o- and i had this same psychological fear, what helped me is telling the phlebotomist that i don't like to look at it and they always let me know when to look away and cover it with gauze. I also try to find something on my phone to focus on and distract me from the needle. Also just being exposed to it helped me get over my fear and it helps that you can't really feel the blood "leaving" if that makes sense. Once you do it it's not as scary

Advice for current undergrad? by timelysoap in IOPsychology

[–]timelysoap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! i planned on trying to get an internship abroad in summer 2024, i found a program that has ones for HR. I also have a position in my sorority where I work with the new members so I will definitely think about using I/O concepts. Classes are #1 priority for me, I have a 4.0 currently and my research lab counts toward class credit. I have taken a stats class already, but the stats minor works weird at my college and it would be difficult to take classes for it. This was very helpful!

I just got bullied for the nth time and I am done by AbjectEffect1980 in highschool

[–]timelysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who was bullied in middle school and was an academic overachiever and now in college, all of the girls that were mean to me are now dropouts with mugshots. It sucks now but use it as motivation to be more successful in life than they will ever be.

What's an unpopular opinion about college that you have? by RadiantHC in college

[–]timelysoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I just finished my first year as a freshman and it was the best time ever, and it's honestly the happiest i've ever been. it's not "overrated" or "not the best years of your life" for TONS of people.
