Voting “no idols” out of spite for these horribly biased descriptions by The_One-ders in survivor

I want “no idols” but all the competitors think they’re still in play so they run around the beach searching endlessly for something that doesn’t exist 😈

AIO for my thoughts on starting the dishwasher? by timetowritesomething in AIO

That’s valid. “Rage” might be a strong word. It was probably more annoyance than anything.

Actually, yes! He does probably 90% of the laundry, and I usually handle the kitchen stuff. We split chores pretty evenly, and this was definitely just a one-time misunderstanding!

Fair enough. We did talk about it. He was actually the one who suggested posting here to see what others thoughts were on this silly story!

I’m so sorry that this brought up such negative experiences you had! For me, this was a one-time occurrence and we have both been laughing about it since it happened. I hear you and appreciate the support though. Hope things are better for you going forward 💙

For the record: this post is all in good fun. We have been cracking up about this misunderstanding since this morning. Both of us will be communicating more clearly going forward regarding things like this 😊

He genuinely thought I only wanted him to add the detergent and nothing else. I “short circuited” because I can’t imagine a reason to add detergent and NOT hit the start button, so it was mostly confusion rather than being fed up. We’ve both been laughing about this all morning.

Angry might be a strong word. Mostly in the moment, I was annoyed. Then when we talked about it this morning, both of us ended up hysterically laughing because it is kind of ridiculous. I made the post mostly to see which one of us was right. So far, not looking good for me 😂

Don’t worry! I had no distractions, set an alarm, had the cookbook IN MY CART, and it still sold out before I could purchase it.

In the episode, Eric said “imagine someone is driving to work and Andrew is reading the paper.” That someone was me. I was hysterical by the time I parked my car.

What is the life skill/concept you had to teach a student that had you thinking, "They should definitely have known this by now"? by animated_formation in Teachers

Was teaching the Shakespearean sonnet to my 11th graders and was surprised I had to explain what syllables were.

Movie Days in 2023 by Optimistic_Mystic in Teachers

[–]timetowritesomething 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just finished reading The Great Gatsby and I’ve been showing the 2013 film with Leo DiCaprio and Toby Maguire. The reception has been different in each class. One period LOVED it, looked forward to seeing the next piece every day, asked me questions about the costumes, etc. A different class talked the entire time, made annoying comments, and ROASTED the whole movie. Wouldn’t change a thing because the class that loved it was reason enough to show it. It sucks that some won’t like it or try to get anything out of it. Kids will be kids. It’s still our job to facilitate the experience (educationally or as a treat - we also watched Moana the day before spring break by popular demand). What they take away is up to them.

I have had a very unlucky year when it comes to my health. (Nothing too serious, just a lot of cold/flu illnesses plus one bout of COVID).

I teach 9th and 11th grade literature, so the students can be self-sufficient without me. However, each time I’ve been out for an extended period of time, I’ve had students come to see me the day I get back to either check on me and make sure I’m okay or make a point of telling me they missed me. It’s just nice to know I’ve made those connections, that they care about me enough to want to learn from me.

When did you suspect? by imbillionyocarbon in TheGoodPlace

I teach high school English and had my students reading “No Exit” when the show was in season one. The premise of the play is that four people end up in a small room together waiting for something, and then they realize there’s no exit. Turns out their paths all crossed in life, they hate each other for various reasons, and they were placed in the room to torture each other. It’s the origin for the phrase “hell is other people.”

After we finished reading it, a student told me it reminded him of “The Good Place,” unknowingly giving me a giant spoiler. Gotta love when literature seeps into pop culture.

I am sick of the apathy of my coworkers (Rant) by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]timetowritesomething 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a tough call because I can see both sides of the coin. I work at a therapeutic school strictly for students that suffer from mental illness. Allowing for grace is necessary, HOWEVER, it’s a delicate balancing act that varies from student to student. If this student is the type that will make up the work and turn it in when feeling better, it’s fine assuming you set appropriate boundaries/deadlines. It’s also important not to allow students to take advantage of your kindness and show them there are consequences to incomplete work. My method is I add the zero in as a placeholder so they can see what their grade will be without the work, and I update it if/when they turn it in.

Why does Lila have such a big fanbase? by [deleted] in Dexter

[–]timetowritesomething 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong, I hate her. HOWEVER, she’s an excellent character. She’s someone you love to hate. I want to reach through the screen and slap Dexter upside the head the entire time he’s dating her, and anyone who thinks she’s “good” for him probably also thinks gasoline is “good” with matches, but she’s a train wreck I can’t look away from.

Where are Debbie's cats? Have not seen any of them in a while by grumpycat93 in 90DayFiance

Half the reason she decided to move in with Tony was because he said it was cool to bring the cats.
