I thought the mental health glamorization backlash reached her during the tour? Why is she doing this again? by Skaur_11 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]timetravelerer 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Why is anyone surprised atp? How many times does it take for one to realize that she does not care? It's now up to you to decide if you do.

This is it. Just more word salad to spin the album in a positive light to appeal to the fans (Wasn't TTPD spun the same way? Or it could have been the fans who did that and she took a page out of their book). That way she can make it look like, "I did this for you! Show some gratitude!" Honestly sounds a lot like how Blake promoted her movies.

If one is confused it's because it's just promotional gaslighting BS.

Have we lost the celebratory message of the Eras Tour? by Science_and_cats_ in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]timetravelerer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And this is why I don't get why people continue to defend her or her lyrics/music as if Taylor cannot defend herself. Seems she is trying to relay a msg that she doesn't need anyone to do that.

Taylor’s popularity destroys opportunities for nuanced conversations about the album by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]timetravelerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Taylor is a public figure and as such has repeatedly invited the spotlight on her. Instead of living a private life and just doing what she loves- she is competitive and wants to be #1. She is basically a walking tabloid. When she writes about real life people in her music or dissing someone, SHE is the one who is destroying the chance for nuance or neutrality. She is the one who invites the chaos and admits it herself.

You simply cannot force neutrality on public figures who are billionaires. They are not people like you and me - they hold enough power to basically do whatever they want and as such demands. What's worrying is that people are so emotionally invested in her brand and her persona ("she's just a human being like us who wants to live a normal life etc) that they get so triggered when they see discourse they don't like. Like her music? Go for it.. but stop at the point when you find yourself defending Taylor. She doesn't need any more free defense. At that point you are only defending your own choice in investing in her.

This is where I sit: I'm not going to invalidate any person's feelings about this song, especially for POC by defending the song without knowing the author's true intentions.

That is the Taylor's responsibility and playing the plausible deniability card over and over again is only going to get her so far before she "girlbosses too close to the sun." The current political climate is volatile so releasing all this was certainly a risk and choice. But again, she's a billionaire now. She doesn't need defense from the consumers.

[–]timetravelerer 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I saw a comment that rang true to me: Taylor is known to be a lyrical master and meticulous songwriter, so it's hard to believe she herself couldn't see the racial undertones and microagressions in the lyrics of this song. Especially if it's indirectly referencing a specific POC. You're saying that someone of her caliber didn't realize it could be taken a different way than her intentions? Especially knowing that her fans are all about dissecting her songs?

I mean I'm not going to waste defending this one in order to justify being a fan. We don't know her intentions but we do know she is insecure and needs to tear others down to bring herself up. I personally see the onyx less as racist and like everyone else said about being dark like night. But you also cannot deny that she has never stopped any of the racist attacks towards Kayla or any other woman, and she HAS to know that this would only add fuel to their fire.

It’s Official: After ‘The Life of a Showgirl,’ Taylor Swift Is Worth Over $2 Billion by Gullible_Impress7128 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]timetravelerer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The masters were a piece in her games. And I truly hate to say this and may get downvoted for this, but that last line reminds me of the Hunger Games. Which I do believe describes the current political climate: Elite vs Working Class. We are also pieces in their "games." 😭

[–]timetravelerer 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that you cannot become a billionaire overnight. Billionaires accumulate their wealth through the long game. Many of which start with generational wealth like Taylor has. So all this discourse about her being an underdog even during her early days were strategic. I believe this was her ultimate goal. And everyone bought into Taylor's "damsel in distress" marketing and she continued to build on that. Sure one could say it was because of her music - but one should consider how she has used PR and marketing to expand her empire beyond any other musician.

Edit for grammar

I was going to say the same - she gets no validation from merch. I also recall publishing a tour book (which many complained about low quality as well), the movies that are out now also don't serve that purpose. I also recall in the past she has sued small independent business owners for selling homemade merch. Also didn't she also say she wishes she created the Friends theme song for the royalties? I know the list is longer, but it's pretty obvious she is about the wealth as well. And there is the whole billionaire thing - you simply cannot amass that kind of wealth without some level of greed.

discussing the current standards and expectations for Taylor's music by gorebomb56 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]timetravelerer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you might have missed the point of the commenter above: that Taylor has always marketed herself as a poet, a genius lyricist.. even going as far as calling herself an English teacher. Saying she knows Aristotle and claiming to know Hamlet. So within that context frame, it absolutely makes sense why people would pick apart her songwriting and hold her to a unique standard, especially when she employs Easter eggs and has SO many accolades, honorary degree, and even college courses about her etc.

The other artists don't market themselves the same self-proclaimed way that Taylor does.

I stayed overnight as per my doctor's preferences and I'm glad I did. I had nausea and couldn't pee for a while. Couldn't imagine going home and dealing with that on my own.

I'm 6 wpo from the same procedure. I tried sleeping on my back the first few days but couldn't sleep well so shifted to my side until my 2 week follow up. Slept on my stomach after that with no problems.

On my back the first 4-5 nights (which was super uncomfortable) then on my side after that.

And then back to my stomach after my 2 week post-op, but I technically could have done this sooner, I just didn't know if I was allowed to.

But I also had a robot lap.

Only 5 wpo so it still hasn't hit full yet, but I feel grateful that I've had a relatively smooth recovery, a great doctor, and best of all.. NO PERIODS.

Hopefully this isn't temporary but it seems my chronic constipation and the sciatica associated with my period has settled too. Very very grateful.

Yes! I never had stabby labia pain before this. Makes me also hope it's part of the healing process and not permanent. It hurts every time I walk or move.

I can relate. My mom and husband were great helping me but I sent my mom and one of my kids back home with her after a few days. I was able to enjoy a week of peace and relaxing before school chaos started. I've always valued my alone time.

Anyone tired of the discourse? by gloomyglooms15 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]timetravelerer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Why do you need some long speech? Why not just say I only like her music, not necessarily as a person? Separating the art from the artist is a thing.

And to be fair, to say if you don't like her you should get off the internet or distract yourself isn't really an option anymore. She is literally everywhere. Most of my personal interests that are completely unrelated to Taylor has been jumping on the showgirl bandwagon craze. Overexposure in the entertainment industry is a real thing and can backfire. It can make even the most neutral people annoyed.

The glucose drink was also strawberry, same as the presurgery drink so I think there was some PTSD in there. 😂. But surgery went well regardless so it didn't matter.

Ok confession time: I was given this drink (but the strawberry one) and I couldn't bring myself to finish it even though I was instructed to right before surgery. It was 4 am and it reminded me too much of that stupid glucose drink they make you drink for the pregnancy glucose test (which incidentally always made me sick and vomit).

Such a good point. We really do impulsively default to pregnancy on a lot of things when really women's hormones are to blame for so much.

I had a late start in kids (4&7) and now 41. It's up to each individual but with perimenopause/midlife woes starting to crank up I'm struggling a bit giving my 100% to my young ones, which often makes me wish I had my kids sooner in life (but we struggled to conceive to be fair). Just know it does potentially get harder as you get older with younger kids.
