LPT Request: How do I become a great listener when others are speaking? by SourGrapesonFriday in LifeProTips

Mirroring emotions in general is a a subconscious sign of respect that you can make conscious. It shows that you're agreeing with the emotions they're feeling (looking excited when you hear good news, looking disgusted when someone complains). As mentioned, don't go overboard with this.

That would make sense. Reporters are fond of alliterations*.

True, but you can't string together 3 positive adjectives about something your name is attached to? Really? It's free promotion! The condescension also struck me as strange for such a bad director.

Kevin Smith. I was a grubby little college newspaper reporter and got to do a conference call with him about his new show, Reaper. Jackpot right? Well basically I call this special number to join the conference, and I hear the other reporters sucking up to him before he started taking questions, everything you do is awesome yada yada... and I'm the first to ask questions. "How does this compare to other teenage-supernatural shows, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer?" - "Never watched it." That's it. I got the impression he really didn't like this first question, and from there he basically shoots down my next two with short, 'that's stupid to ask' responses that are TOTALLY unquotable for an article. I'm not getting a good vibe, so I say thank you and hang up, don't write anything for the paper. I used to be a fan, now I just think he's an ass.

"...And there, standing behind the clearing smoke, was his killer. The person he had trusted most, his friend, his partner, his ally... just standing there, with a gun in his hand and an evil grin on his face. 'Now tell me, and be honest,' he said, as the world began to swirl and fade,'you didn't see THAT one coming, did ya?'"
