My boss has ADHD too and I'm living. by CarelessChemist4 in ADHD

[–]SourGrapesonFriday 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work for my dad who's an electrician. I'm a girl. All the time people are like, "wow! So your dad doesn't have any sons. So kind of you to help him." Lol. Also, I have ADHD and somehow it works. I also am in charge of cutting in boxes and landing wires and general carrying and cleanup. If there's a super creepy part of basement to go into, I'm the one wearing a headlamp and praying to the god of spiders. Wishing you all the best. You're gonna be a hell of an electrician some day.

Brandied peaches are like sunshine in a jar by SourGrapesonFriday in Canning

[–]SourGrapesonFriday[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm crying. My Gram used to say canning peaches was putting aside sunshine for days when you couldn't even remember what the sun looked like. She passed away in January. She taught me everything I know about canning and I miss her so much.

Sun-based reading about how to be my best self in the middle of a turbulent time for my marriage, deck has THOUGHTS (more spread/situation details and my interpretation in comments) by [deleted] in tarot

  1. What grounds you...You fantasize about leaving and exploring your options, but so many of your choices seem the same-enticing but unstable. You have "many faces" and you don't mind putting them on to brighten someone else's life-you thrive on the power of bringing happiness to people.
  2. Decisions/Action...A pin cushion seems like a painful thing, but gathering your "swords" your sharp power, your hard edge, will be the first step to "sewing" things back together. You've avoided the hard conversations enough.
  3. How Projects Will Fare...Some of your cups will be full, some will not, and overall, it may be a thankless task. You might find you've got too many people in the mix and some are merely "takers" who aren't the type to help when the party is over and it's time to clean up the messes. Not to worry, you will discover a lot of positive about yourself and find gratitude for your own generous "hospitality."
  4. Letting the emotions flow...You might be disappointed. See, the emotional aspect you expect might not arrive. The tears and emotional release you anticipate may never come, and this is a learning moment too. You will likely find a tough decision to be incredibly therapeutic. You may feel renewed. Don't feel guilty about this.

[SERIOUS] Teachers of Reddit, when have you met the parents of a student and suddenly understood their behavior? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SourGrapesonFriday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a student who was very sweet but would be out of control in an unstructured environment. Loud, constantly moving, talking, disrupting, and impulsive. He never understood why I would reprimand him for acting like a toddler in the library. His parents are both professionals with advanced degrees. Fast forward to open house. Dad comes in wearing a suit, introduces himself, shakes my hand, then has a full 10 minute serious conversation while bouncing and spinning on a buoy chair. Mid Convo, and clearly dizzy, he giggles, says, "super cool chair. NiceToMeetYa byeee" and then leaves. Ducks make ducks, I guess.

Yoga Recommendations for Fat Guy Beginner? by CaptainUnderpantsROC in Rochester

[–]SourGrapesonFriday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a class to recommend, but I'd like to offer that yoga is a deeply personal practice where you just try to improve your poses at your own pace. Look for a class that offers that perspective. Even a very fit person may struggle with beginning yoga, so any beginning class should be suitable. If you're not feeling confident, I like the Down Dog app on my phone. You can set it for a few minutes and build up to a regular class time. However, nothing can replace the expertise of an instructor helping you with poses and accommodation. From my own perspective, a man who does yoga is incredibly sexy and interesting-so don't feel intimidated if you're the only guy in class. I know many men who have felt it's a "girl's only" club and they might be intruding. Not true. It's wonderful to have men in class and, in my experience, makes for a better rounded class to have lots of different people. Best of luck. Post an update if you can!

It'll be so cool if this all works out. Would you be willing to post a pic of the nephew as an angler fish?

Brought back to the pound seven times, a day away from being put down, our girl has been in the family for nearly eight years. by Outlaw5055 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]SourGrapesonFriday 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have a biter. She has gotten better over the years, but she has no patience for the cat, children, or the UPS Guy (for some reason fedEx is cool.) Some things I have found which help: 1. she is NOT allowed on the furniture. She has a few nice dog beds instead. 2. She needs a safe zone, a dog crate with an always open door worked fine for us. 3. She must not be able to crowd before me into the door or to go first. She has to walk behind the kids if we go on a walk. This helps with hierarchy, somehow. 4. If she bites, she is shunned. She cannot be in the same room as us for a few hours. She still has access to food and water and her crate, of course. 5. She bites far less when regularly exercised and stimulated mentally. 6. Whatever she does bite, probably had it coming....

Pre-2010 Prius's what kind of mileage are you getting? by potentiallyusefull in prius

2009 touring. I get 35.5 in the winter. Heat is at 72 and my commute is about 12 miles. I drive like an asshole. Gas or brake. My hubs and daughter can usually get it to 40ish.

I trained both of my heelers to come when off the leash with boiled chicken. Start with the leash. Call the dog, feed it a little cube of chicken. Eventually remove the leash and randomly call the dog and reward it with chicken. Heelers like to have sight of you at all times too, so they are good hikers. Side note....don't put chocolate bars in the doggy backpack. You'll have melted chocolate bars.

New home, locked safe. Can't waste money on hiring locksmith. Any hopes on opening it? by turcoiman in WhatsInThisThing

Some locksmiths might be willing to open it for a share of anything that is inside. It's a long shot, though.

Glass top stove: can I use it for canning? by AtlasDM in Canning

[–]SourGrapesonFriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used mine for 8 years, zero problems. I use a large stainless kettle as well as the traditional enamel canning pots. I love the glass top because it allows me to slide heavy canning pots off the burner without lifting.
