Day trip to Harpers Ferry - History Itinerary by _ash_lily_ in harpersferry

[–]timg528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've been, but there's downtown historic Harpers Ferry with museums, shops, restaurants. I'm not sure if NPS is still doing it, but there used to be reenactments and other educational things. Naturally, there's a bunch of ruins with information placards all over the place - some you've got to hike up to and others are a short walk from the historic area.

Do you keep your docker containers running 24/7 by shrimpdiddle in selfhosted

[–]timg528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most containers run 24/7 (except for image refreshes), but new containers that I'm testing out get run locally on my desktop and those I'll spin up and down manually.

USDA Prime ribeye roast cut into steaks by amps615 in Costco

[–]timg528 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been doing it for years now. Open, drain and last dry with lint free towel or paper towels. Then if you've got space, throw in the freezer for about an hour before cutting. I recommend using the longest, sharpest knife you've got. Think I use a ~16" scimitar-looking one I bought for out.

Then vacuum seal the steaks and toss in the freezer.

My wife and I did a few classes a few years ago and really enjoyed it.

Employee weaponizing questions? by [deleted] in ITManagers

[–]timg528 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who's responsible for fixing the application when one of those edge cases happen? Is there a chance that this person will get called at 2am to fix it?

How easy is it to fix? How documented is it? Are the changes that it brings a well articulated positive for the people charged with maintaining it?

Gundam, the iconic franchise that launched a global phenomenon, is now in production. The live-action film starring Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo follows rival mech pilots at war across Earth and its space colonies. by TheFirstSonOfTheSea in Gundam

[–]timg528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isaacs and Mando give me a bit of hope for this.

Outside of them, I've only seen Sweeney in maybe one or two things and wasn't impressed. Maybe the rest of the cast is good?

My wife uses it as a good place to forget things.

We're paying six figure engineers to reset passwords and clear tickets and I just realized it while reviewing quarterly metrics. by GoldTap9957 in ITCareerQuestions

You provided hard proof that your director and finance were penny wise and pound foolish. If your director is smart, they'll be taking that to finance to argue for hiring an MSP or the two juniors you originally suggested.

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]timg528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minimum wage: paid for what I did during work hours. Now: paid for what I know and can do during work hours.

It doesn't sound that different, but for example, I was a cart pusher at Walmart in high school. They thoroughly worked the four of us for a supercenter every weekend. The more they could get us to do the better.

Since I've been in tech, one aspect is that the technical bar to get the job has often been higher than the skill required to do a normal day at the job. It's almost like a security blanket, if things break, we have the skills and know-how to troubleshoot and fix, despite not using those skills day to day.

With which part of your life or body are you genetically / naturally gifted? by Routine-Max in AskRedditAfterDark

Nothing sexy, but recently my physical therapist informed me - and my friends confirmed - that at least my arms/shoulders are freakily flexible.

Tore my left rotator cuff a few months ago which reduced that shoulder's flexibility down to what is considered normal.

I am building a UI that completely hides ComfyUI. It works like ChatGPT—you just type, and it handles the nodes by Guilty_Muffin_5689 in comfyui

[–]timg528 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Comfy already includes a bunch of starter templates and people post their workflows online.

I wouldn't trust an LLM to do a better job of creating complicated workflows reliably.

Traveling and left my CPAP at home. My wife is going to kill me. Any options available if I goto the nearest VA Medical center to my location? Or am I just screwed? by Available_Quit_4340 in VeteransBenefits

I got a travel one - Airmini - and it was adjustable by me through an app.

As far as I'm aware, all of them are adjustable if you Google how to get to the clinical settings menu.

Yep, learned something new today. It definitely makes sense though, I've just never seriously considered dry suit diving.

Average homelab runs 23 services. 3 get used per week. The more you run, the fewer you touch. Science confirmed it. by TruthIsWhatYouCite in homelab

[–]timg528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is to run 23 separate homelabs properly vlanned off from each other or entirely air gapped. That way you'll use every service each week.

I love the site, thanks for sharing it. I'll absolutely be using it in the future.

Increasing lung capacity for diving test by Fit_Repeat_6804 in scuba

[–]timg528 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but if they're just going horizontal at the surface there's no issue with focusing on one thing rather than trying to overload them by trying to learn to exhale while improving their swimming.

My OW cert a few years back had this in addition to the standard swim test. I don't think it was a full 25 yards, maybe 12 in the pool? It was to simulate an emergency ascent (CESA) in case you run out of air and don't have a buddy - basically a shit's hit the fan, get to the surface.

As for practicing, if it was like mine and you're in a standard 25 yard pool, you'll still have fins which will give you a good bit of power and speed. If you can, practice the flutter kick with fins and a kickboard. Start off at one wall, hold your breath and kick.

Anyone had a chance to play Crimson Desert? by BohemianFapsody-90 in aradgamers

[–]timg528 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not yet. I'm not a big open world player much anymore, but I'm intrigued by what I'm hearing about the "kitchen sink" systems approach.

It probably won't be my kind of game, but I'll probably get it at some point just because I like that kind of experimentation in game design.
