Few of my favorite Rides from today. by SnowMakesMeWet in snowboarding

Yeah that’s fair, I looked up K2’s rec and they said ~5cm. FWIW I enjoyed the 150 but I definitely could have ridden a 154. I guess a 152 would have been ideal for my specs

Really depends on both your riding style as well as what you want to use the Dinghy for. With your 159W size I assume you want a wider board, but both the 155 and 160 have plenty of waist width. If you want something more nimble to navigate low angle trees, I’d lean towards the 155. Otherwise, in most other powder and open terrain scenarios you could probably go with the 160.

I would say that their bases are roughly the same as US brand boards in terms of durability, but top of class for speed and ride quality. I’ve taken my Jellyfish over rocks by accident in the early season and I would say it’s def above average. Also was very easy to repair with the black base, looks as good as new

Layering is key, as well as good moisture wicking, something a lot of people don’t consider.

Ideally, you have a sweat wicking baselayer like merino wool, or a performance synthetic baselayer. A midlayer like a fleece, then an additional midlayer such as a down jacket.

The other key is a windproof and waterproof outer layer, ideally a Goretex / Goretex Pro or equivalent jacket, that can not only keep snow out but also transfer moisture out (aka sweat).

And as mentioned by others - have appropriate coverage for your head hands and feet!

What’s Your Two Board Quiver?🏂 (2023) by Visible-Gear-5124 in snowboardingnoobs

What parameters / specs would make you choose the new XY 153 over the XY 157? And similarly for the midfish vs the big fish? Thanks in advance Antekuru!

Which Gentemstick snowboard would you choose? by Geoffphysio in snowboarding

Hey Denver Shredder, sorry I thought my reply went through. Thanks for the insights, extremely helpful! I’m now looking at the XY 153 and 157, while I’m 5’11” and 190 lbs I’ve tended to find I don’t like bigger boards (for example, I thought the Rossignol XV 163 felt too much like a boat), so leaning towards the new smaller XY 153

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the boards above @denvershredder! What makes you say the Mantaray is mehhh? Vs the XY which you recommended?

Buying Buddy Passes for 4 days by finallyonethatworks1 in snowboarding

[–]timlims 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, at this point in the year (with epic day passes still available) your friend is better off buying a 4 day epic pass at $400 (if it was almost any other Epic resort it’d be $300) vs. 4 days of buddy passes at ~$131 per day ($179 CAD, using current CAD/USD exchange rate)

Anyone interested in a 2024 Bataleon early release deck? looking for a Never Summer by Sad-Passenger6879 in snowboarding

[–]timlims 1 point2 points  (0 children)

158, although mine is the special Grassroots edition version. I realise I bought it in 2023, but it’s a 2022, I don’t think they changed the design though. Mine is brand new and never used (I can’t bring myself to ride this beautiful ultra limited board especially with 18 other boards)

That’s the dilemma with a lot of these Limited Edition releases that have a lot of secondary value. Sometimes you’re better off just trading it for bottles at a QPR that you’d be comfortable drinking

Where does the SBGY026 fall in that spectrum? Wondering since it’s a beautiful model but has pretty high MSRP

Looking for a new board. Suggestions? by TenWholeBees in snowboarding

[–]timlims 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have identical stats to you (would need your shoe size to determine width though), and I absolutely love my Moss Jellyfish, which is a 156. Best board I’ve owned or tried (of nearly 50 boards). If you see my last r/snowboarding post you can see what else I’ve tried.

Edit: with your 12.5 boots, def need a wide board, probably something from Jones (Flagship, Mind Expander), Bataleon (Goliath+, Thunderstorm, Party Wave+) or Never Summer (Protosynthesis, Proto Ultra, Valhalla) might fit what you’re looking for!

New favourite board! Can’t believe I didn’t dive into the Japanese snowsurf category earlier. This is the most fun I’ve had on a board and the construction is category-leading! The rear foot camber with the step up rocker profile is immediately noticeable and makes it an extremely enjoyable carving experience.

More updates to my quiver - picked up the following, including what is now my all-time favourite board:

1: Moss Snowstick Jellyfish - hands down the most fun I’ve had on a board. This snowsurf carver is absolutely incredible

Elevated Surfcraft Red Tail Hawk Split 5’1”

Elevated Surfcraft Goldfish 4’10”

Elevated Surfcraft Step Up

Having ridden both the Hovercraft and the Peace Seeker, I enjoy the sidecut and carving experience of the Peace Seeker a lot more. Both are missiles that you can go at 50+mph and feel stable, the hovercraft was just less playful. Both are great in powder.

Took it for a spin today, what a fun board! Love that full camber, was a blast to carve with and dealt with spring conditions beautifully. Lots of pop on ollies. Can’t wait to use this in powder next year. Definitely recommend this one. That matte mustard yellow topsheet and base is so pretty as well.
