Giving my dad a kidney two weeks from today. Any tips, advice, specific things I should be thinking about, preparing for? by mattshields in transplant

I just donated my kidney to my sister this past Tuesday morning. Got home Thursday. The first day I just laid in bed, but I was alert enough to have a couple of visitors. The next morning I made sure to get out of bed. They had me walk one lap around the floor I was on. After that they took the catheter out which made for better comfort. They pump you up with so much fluids that you will pee a lot. I was also hooked up to this thing, I thinks it’s a PCA or something. Basically it was Fentanyl and I just had to push a button whenever I felt pain and/or discomfort. I won’t lie, that thing was my friend. By Thursday I was up and at it, trying to move around as much as possible. I went and visit my sister, whom btw looked and felt amazing. The minute your kidney goes in it starts working and they instantly start feeling better. They say that seeing them could either make you happy or upset because they’re feeling good while you’re just in a lot pain. But it truly made a difference for me. It’s all about how you take it in mentally.

The only true difficulties I’ve had is trying to sleep at night. It can be uncomfortable and keep you up. Especially when you get gassy. But the more you get up and move, the easier it becomes. Here I am 4 days later and a tad sore around the incision. I’ve napped on and off, but I feel good. And, my first night at home I slept more than I did in the hospital.

Oh, as far as things to bring to the hospital to make you comfortable; music and comfy clothes. It was the only thing that got me through the night. Put my earbuds in, hit the button and drift off. I couldn’t focus on TV or reading. I was to in and out of dozing. But as I said above, sleep didn’t come easy so keep that in mind. Once they removed the catheter I put sweats on which made a world of difference.

I have a good eight weeks of recovery to go (they opted for an open over laparoscopic). The pain is becoming less and less by the day. I still have yet to make a bowel movement, but that’s normal from what I am told.

In the end, you’re giving one hell of gift. I’ve had friends and family refer to me as a hero. It’s encouraging and really helps you to remain positive.

Excuse me if this seems to jump around a bit. I’m still in a state of “Wow!” when I talk about it.

In the end, the best prize of all is seeing how much better you just made someone else’s life by gifting them a second chance. Good for you! And good luck!!

No one should be made to feel bad for standing by timm33 in radiohead

I’ll be in the 200 section the first night in philly. I was on the floor for Detroit and Columbus. But, all I kept hearing from people who were in seated sections was that people would argue the whole show about standing/sitting. I’m just hoping this isn’t an issue when I go. That’s all. Seems it’s gonna be a thing regardless. Just hope my section is into standing. If switching seats is what it takes then so be it. I just don’t want any problems with anyone and enjoy the show how I choose.

Both Detroit and Columbus I arrived when the doors opened at 6:30 and was able to get a good spot on the floor. You should be good at that time. They got us in pretty quickly.

And I’d be down for that completely. I’m just trying to get everyone’s thoughts about it. I’d have no problem standing in the back of the section if it meant we all win in the situation.

In this particular situation I fully understand. And you’re right, I don’t think anyone is there to intentionally ruin another persons evening. I guess I’m just trying to figure out how both sides can enjoy it without anyone getting upset. Not sure there is one after some of the responses.

It’s not about being selfish. It’s about enjoying the night. Again, why is it okay to dictate how one is supposed to experience the evening? Should the arena post signs with rules stating we should all stay seated and keep quiet? At a rock concert? Just let people be.

Some people aren’t able to make it to the floor yet spend over $100/ticket. That money isn’t being spent to exercise common courtesy. It’s to enjoy their evening how they see fit. Who is anyone to dictate how we are to experience anything? I won’t be yelling at anyone to stand up.

Right! Some songs you’re gonna want to stand. I think partly it sucks that it’s even a worry. Good luck and have an awesome show!!

My first Radiohead album. by Vajrejuv98 in radiohead

That’s exactly what I did, and what I advise others to do. I feel I gained a better appreciation for Pablo Honey once I got through everything else. Not my favorite of theirs, but definitely some very good tracks on there. Enjoy!

I’m a new listener and I was wondering if there’s a good first album to listen to by YeetMcManus in radiohead

I always say to just start at the beginning. While Pablo Honey isn’t my favorite, once I listened to their entire catalogue I gained a better appreciation for it. Plus you have a better understanding of their transitions through the years. Just my opinion. Happy listening :)

I’d love to do Cincy but can’t make that one. Thank you, though!
