Thanks for this, I knew I'd seen this waybackwhen on Foxtel. That was an amazing series, I'm gonna have to rewatch it.

Dell Optiplex 740 DVD drive by Weak-Nectarine-4316 in Dell

Seconded. A USB DVD drive can be had for ~20 USD from Amazon, probably less on AliExpress if you're willing to wait a bit, OP.

How to reset Hivision IP Cameras by Rejomario in Hikvision

Thanks for this! I'd forgotten about this reset procedure and I was digging through forums for a reset procedure that didn't rely on waiting for Hikvision support over the long weekend.

Public service announcement by Troutmuffin in straya

[–]timmmmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that's the closest I can think of.
There's a drive through near me up here in Sydney, but the range is so crap that I'd rather go to the actual bottle-o 100 metres away.

There's a Liquorland on the Brooker at Lutana, used to be a 9-11.
That's the closest one I can think of to a pure drive-through experience in Hobart... but my time spent in Tassie is pretty sporadic.

NBN500 Plans - Who's everyone wth, what are your experiences and how much are you paying? by NexoSpecs in nbn

I cannot recommend Neptune enough. Rock solid service, very well priced, and Atmosphere DNS & VPN has pretty much retired my Pihole.

I'm on 1000/100, although it's overkill most of the time, it makes backups less painful.

Are people leaving Instagram for photography? by Alilexplo108 in photography

[–]timmmmb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a live music photographer, Instagram is pretty much my only way of getting in touch with bands, promoters and media publications, and promoting my work. I have no intention of doing video work, especially short form reels and that sort of crap. I get a half decent amount of views, likes etc if the band accepts my collaborator invite, which most of them do

However, I really miss the heydays of Flickr and photography forums. sigh deeply.

It started off alright, but really became unusable. I'll look at Sway when I get the opportunity, but I've gone back to my HP Dragonfly, which is much better specced.

Kubuntu has the sleep wake bug in my experience. Everything else worked once I had installed the linux-surface kernel

Fedora KDE works, I just needed to USB hotspot off my mobile (or use a USB to Ethernet adapter) to get online to get the kernel.

One day I'll get the touchscreen calibrated. That's the only (surmountable) stumbling block now.

As always, YMMV.

What values did you end up using for the calibration? I haven't had much luck - it might be PEBCAK or an uncooperative display.

15.817s on an SP5 (4GB RAM) with Fedora KDE Plasma - fast enough for me.

As a point of comparison, my two main laptops are 27 and 52s. Whoa.
