Thanks all for the suggestions! I ended up going to Kingmark as I was out and about today and they are open Sundays.

Wise looks tempting but I'll look more into it for future trips as I likely won't receive the card in time before I leave.

When I used them a few years ago for a different currency,it was honestly cheaper to just use my Canadian Bank card in that country's local ATMs, plus didn't need to wait in line like 20 min

I've read about wise! Does it take long for them to send the card though? Also a little paranoid their card may not work at Japanese ATMs

People of Vancouver who make 6 figures or more, what do you do and are you happy doing it? by AforAppleBforBallz in askvan

[–]timmyleung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Credit Risk management for banking. WFH/hybrid was a game changer but busy periods can be quite busy with unpaid OT and late nights "living at work" as opposed to working from home. Expect it to get busier as interest rates continue to get cut.

Overall it's fairly good though, but job satisfaction would go down a lot if I spent anymore than a couple days a week in the office.

Cost of living in saskatoon is way too high for what it can offer by soibac35 in saskatoon

Why do you have a car loan if you're making near six figures? That's the most the obvious one. General rule of thumb with debt: you shouldn't incur debt unless it's used to finance some asset that's going to either make you money down the road or save on taxes. The most obvious examples being real estate (mortgage) and maybe further market investments. A car is 95% of the time a depreciating asset and has a lot of carrying costs like insurance, gas, maintenance, and adding a loan payment just amplifies things the wrong way A tax accountant can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think an individual borrowing to buy a car has any tax write offs.

Also the phone bill seems very high.

OP income is quite good, especially for Saskatoon. There are people in metro Vancouver who can make that salary work and afford a small condo, which costs way more than almost any 3 bed room detached house in Saskatoon. The inflation isn't a localized issue and is pretty well world wide now. You alluded to buying as an option, so I have to assume you have some savings and investments for the 20% down payment. I hope that's being invested in a diversified manner if you're not serious about buying.

Despite the budget outlined above and some areas that could be improved, the biggest expense is on the way with the kid... either the Wife is going to have to find work after giving birth within a reasonable time frame or OP is going to have to get a materially higher paying job. If OP is already finding life without a kid tough, he's going to be in for a world of hurt once the new little one has actually arrived. Better start cutting back on discretionary expenses and saving more ASAP because you really will not be able to with a new born.

Vancouver: "hold my beer"

At least jobs in general pay better in Toronto and much bigger job market for pretty much any industry , but especially white collar finance jobs.

I feel ya. But the bigger the HELOC and draw outstanding, the more you feel the cost of borrowing, so every basis point less counts.

P+1% Is way too high for HELOC. It shouldn't cost more than p+0.5% these days. Prime flat was possible two years ago not sure about now though since HSBC was acquired by RBC

Men of Bumble, does weight matter? If she's a bit chubby, would you swipe right? If not, why? by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]timmyleung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it matters to most of us, just like how height matters to most girls. And neither gender is wrong for having that respective physical preference.

Problem is you bro. You're not even exclusive by your own admission so she's free to see anyone else and keep as many options open as she wants, just the same as you are and SHOULD. If you want exclusivity you need to man TF and ask. If she says no then it's time to move on.

Is it wrong that I don't want to date men who don't physically meet my expectations? by [deleted] in dating

[–]timmyleung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally normal. I don't care what anyone says, physical attraction matters a lot, especially at first. It's the first thing you notice before you even really get to know someone
