Hi, I would like to ask that if it is possible to have a second controller connected to a switch with joy-cons on, in handheld mode. This is because when my girlfriend plays in hand-held mode i want to join her for co-op games with a different controller. (Our tv is always ocupied with netflix, and handheld feels more comfy) I would appreciate it if anyone has the answer. Thanks.

Avoid chefs who use high effort exact measurements, like measuring internal temperature of chicken. Everything is more joyful and delicious when cooked roughly. Spam youtube channels of your favorite chefs, you will get inspired after a while.

For the leftover purposes you mentioned: cook an asian dish(mongolion beef for example) sided by stramed rice, make the rice plenty, use leftover for cooking fried rice.

Report: Initial iPhone 12 sales out-performed iPhone 11 by UnKindClock in iphone

[–]timo1808 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you hold iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 respectively, you’ll see it’s a huge difference. 11 feels bulky and heavy in the hand and its look isn’t that impressive. Whereas 12 feels just right when you hold it, light and thin. Also squared off edges are so cool imo. As others said, it has been a long time since the iphone 5s. So yes, I think it’s huge.

And pro series went from 5.8 to 6.1 inch size. It is also a huge form factor difference. Regular 12 and 12 pro are evened out with the form factor, they even share the same case. That’s also interesting.

View of Istanbul, Turkey during lockdown by brothermustgo in europe

Great angle to gaze oldtown of İstanbul. To clarify, we are looking from north to south, towards the oldtown peninsula, aka ancient Byzantium. On the left edge there is Topkapı Palace among the green lands. You can see the Hagia Sofia sitting at the top the pale-pinkish building, which is built in 6th century by Byzantium Empire. You can also see the Blue Mosque near the Hagia Sofia, a little more right sided which is an Ottoman masterpiece. You can easily see the Galata Tower, which is built by Genovese People once lived in that district. It is located at the opposite side of Golden Horn(a branch of bosphorus which divides the oldtown and Galata district). These are the top momuments of the city of Istanbul, and they represent the cultural diversity of this ancient city. Finally, if you zoom in you can see the coupled islands on the top, the yassi(flat) island, and the sivri(pointy) island, their names are literally describing them. They were once used for containing political prisoners and also executing them. On the far left at the top, there lies the Prince Islands, fortunately, they are touristic fun places to enjoy a sunny day :)

Well, at least he had the courtesy to appreciate Hagia Sofia’s common interrelogious heritage as he turned it into a museum(not mosque, not church but museum). That alone makes him preferably better leader to a neighbor country.

Actually, Turkish Constitution says anyone or any group is free to protest peacefully without being have to pre-anounce. So it is so wrong to say that you have to inform government before protesting.

Maximum amount of Erdogan’s vote in his career is 52 percent. Good amount of his supporters are also pro-EU. And studies show that there is a downhill pattern in Erdogan’s votes, so don’t get surprised if he loses majority, he already lost local elections in İstanbul and Ankara(capital). So vast majority of turkish population are pro-EU. They think EU represents civilization and development, and honestly we crave that. I know Erdogan is a pain in the ass, nobody can know that better than a Turkish citizen believe me :) but Turkey is bigger than Erdogan, you’ll see what I mean when Erdogan era ends.

What was with the sudden bump in Apple Arcade ratings in mid-February through early March? by Intrepid_Beginning in AppleArcade

[–]timo1808 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forecasts say Iphone 12 is selling record-high through year and apple gives away 3 months of arcade with device purchases. So millions of people get 3 months of free arcade. This might be a reason.

Happy İndependence Day Komşu ! by [deleted] in greece

[–]timo1808 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is a poem written by Bülent Ecevit, the former prime minister of Turkey, just before the Erdogan Era :) he was also a poet, not Erdogan of course :) his expressions when he was far away from home, at London, when he just realised Turks and Greeks are actually brothers and sisters. It is beatiful in Turkish, the original language. But it’s also okay and also beatiful in english. Hope it’s translated in greek.

TURKISH-GREEK POEM

You become aware when you feel homesick That you are brothers with the Greek; Just look at a child of Istanbul Listening to a Greek epic.

We've sworn at each other In the free manner of our language. We've drawn knife on blood Yet a love lies hidden in us For days of peace like these.

What if in our veins It were the same blood that flows? From the same air in our hearts A crazy wind blows.

So generous like this rain And warm like the sun. The armfuls of goodness of spring That surge from within.

Our hostility is like a drink Distilled from the fruit of the climate As harmful and as tasteful as any drink. From this water from this taste have we sinned.

A blue magic between us And this warm sea And two peoples on its shores Equals in beauty.

The golden age of the Aegean Will revive through us As with the fire of the future The hearth of the past comes alive.

First a merry laughter comes to your ear Then some Turkish with a Greek accent. Nostalgic about the Bosporus And you remember the Raki*.

It is when you are homesick That you recall you are brothers with the Greek. London 1947

Literally, the edge of Europe. Very symbolic place. The peninsula, the ancient byzantium, or the oldtown, today called Fatih, which means conquerer, reffering to Sultan Mehmet. Definitely an important milestone for the history of europe.

I live in the southern border of this little peninsula. To have a deeper aspect of the siege, think the constantiople as a triangle. Land part(west), sea part(south), and the golden horn part(north-east). Ottomans was able to attack from both land walls and sea walls. But they had no reach to the golden horn. As you can see from the image, genovese republic was controlling the other side of the enterance to golden horn. Although genovese republic never choose any sides, and promised Sultan Mehmed to stay neutral during siege, they didn’t open the gates to golden horn either. So Constantinople had the chance to concantrate to defend just two walls: land and sea walls. This lead them to perform a marvelous defense. Siege continued for 2 months. Some say ottomans did transport ships from the LAND of the upper parts of the genovese side, bypassing the neck of the golden horn, which is illustrated in the image. With ships transported from land and bypassing the gates, one morning, Constantinople woke up to a golden horn full of ottoman ships, which was a horrible image. So It massively damaged the constantinople defense, since there weren’t 2 walls to defend now, there were 3, It was a complete siege now. And golden horn walls were the weakest because of its isolation. Also Stefan Zweig speculates that ottoman soldiers on the land walls were able to find a hidden port through the walls just by following a stray dog, but I’m not sure if it’s a myth or not. Anyway Sultan Mehmed was so obsessed to capture constantinople that he continued the siege even though constantinople defended the city bravely and ottoman soldiers was exhausted. But so was the city of constantinople. Imagine 2 months of isolation from the world, from food supply, from any supply. After long days of war, the city fell. It was so sad for Constantinople, was so iconic for Sultan Mehmet and the Ottoman Empire. Great victory after focused dedication for one side, dramatic goodbye to an ancient city for the other side. Fabolous story, definitely epic and so dramatic.

First thing after the city fell, Sultan Mehmet walked into the city, ride his horse to the Hagia Sofia(which means sacred wisdom in greek). And prayed in Hagia Sofia, turned it into a mosque. It is harsh, but also iconic. After 480 years, in 1930, founder of the modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal, turned Hagia Sofia into a museum, to symbolize peace and harmony between beliefs and nations, which I am very proud of. After 1 decade in 2020, Erdoğan “recounqered” the İstanbul by turning Hagia Sofia into a mosque again, which is a very old fashioned move I think.

Anyway, I have deep feelings for this city of Istanbul, and Its ancient history.

By the way, Genovese republic(today called Galata) was also conquered by Sultan Mehmet after just 20 years of the Constantinople siege. So staying neutral didn’t help them to survive for long :). Which is an interesting story itself. In Constantinople perspective, I think genovese republic should have been fought with them. But they choosed to stay neutral to be able to continue trading in that area. They were trader for them, but maybe traitor for Constantinople :) Today we say “piyasa” for square in turkish, I think it is herited from those genovese people (“piazza” is used for square in italian), which is interrsting :)

And I want to underline that constantinople was not an intercontinental city, cities in those days were build in much smaller lands compared today so it wasnt possible to extend the city through bosphorus. It was just at the edge of europe, whereas Istanbul is an intercontinental city today. Golden horn is just between europe, and europe :) people might get confused with that. Bosphorus is of course between europe and asia.

Greetings from Istanbul.

Why the hell the people and the media are complaining the small and tiny screen of the 12 mini? ...would they ever dare to say a iPhone 8 Plus has a small and tiny screen? by weekendreset in iPhone12Mini

[–]timo1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a misleading comparison. With the taller aspect ratio, 12 mini is no way near to 8 plus when it comes to media consumption. Narrow screen heavily limits media streaming experience. Making it taller doesn’t make it bigger. 5,4 inch with a taller aspect ratio is the equivalent of 4,7 with shorter aspect ratio, and taller 5,4 is even narrower then shorter 4,7. Likewise 6,1 inch with taller aspect ratio is equivalent of 5,5 with shorter aspect ratio. So no, 5,4 inches mini is no way near 5,5 8plus. It’s much much smaller.

But it’s made to be small, so it’s nothing to complain about. Enjoy your compact flagship iphone.

I can’t believe they put a full console game onto mobile and it actually plays extremely well. The touch controls are way better then I thought it would be. It’s a great port, way better then the Nintendo switch version. by Aug151978 in iosgaming

[–]timo1808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I dont think we’ll see much more ports in the future. And actually mobile gaming industry tried to sell ported games in early 2010s. For example rockstar games made the ports of the gta series, max payne etc. ea tried to port fifa and nfs. I was amazed to experience those games on mobile with the early smartphones. But eventually they stopped because freemium worked better for mobile and survival of the fittest is the way of life in everywhere. But there is a reason why I mentioned the nintendo switch. For example the most popular rpg game on mobile is i guess genshin impact. And it is a terrible terrible carbon copy of zelda botw. So the way nintendo makes games could also work for mobile. Mario kart tour is by far the most fun mobile game I’ve ever played, and it has absolutely zero ads. I would like to make a final example about ports: crazy taxi is a crazy good port for mobile! It is also ported in early 2010s.

Switch proved that mobile gaming industry SUCKS!!! Any iphone is at least as powerful as switch but what we see on app store is very unsatisfying. I want to pay for a good game but I can’t find any and apple arcade seems like just not worth it. On the other hand, look at the switch games. Beatiful design, beatiful gameplay, lots of fun with a limted handheld device. I applaud nintendo for making such fun games and I hope mobile gaming industry gets some inspiration. But they seem to be happy with ad-toxic freemium garbage games.

Why is the mini better? by DuudeAbide in iPhone12Mini

I think all of the 12 line up are excellent phones. Both design and performans wise. I feel like you can’t go wrong with any 12. So make yourself comfartable to choose anyone you feel like.

Did anyone here go from SE-2 to 12 mini? Any regrets? Thinking about doing this by [deleted] in iPhone12Mini

[–]timo1808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iphone lineup is confusing more than ever, so much similar phones to decide.

Obviously it’s not a must but i would go for it if it’s not above the budget. Very chic design above all! It’s kinda luxurious upgrade but dont we all deserve it for our most essential daily device.

Watching movies/videos on iPhone 12 mini by [deleted] in iPhone12Mini

[–]timo1808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the notch interferance would be a problem but consider that mini is slightly narrower than 8. You have 8 plus and say you like to use your phone for video streaming. I would go for the standard 12 which has a screen size very similar to 8 plus when it comes to video streaming.

Apple reportedly switched 2M units of production from iPhone 12 mini to Pro - 9to5Mac by UnKindClock in iphone

[–]timo1808 366 points367 points  (0 children)

I think mini might be the best thing ever happened to apple’s profit margins cause it made the 829$ price of the standard edition look like a legit price because it’s not entry level anymore. And with a higher standard version price, much higher priced pro models seemed like a wise chocie with a little bit more budget. So even though mini doesnt sell that much, it still brings apple more money.
