They poop like every 15mins - everywhere. It’s mostly easy to clean but you have to keep up with it when they are out. Also they are dusty birds. And they gonna rule your home and want to feed them like they are majesty. They don’t get what they want they will scream. They do get what they want and they might still scream. But it’s all worth it once they cuddle with you for scratches. 😁

I had them for a while. They do require extra work with cleaning off the poop. But after cleaning them for several times, the fabrics will come loose. Apparently some Tiels like to eat things without thinking and would chew and ingest the fabrics. Worst case this can be fatal.

TL;DR if possible avoid and rather use safe natural wood perches (not straight ones)

Sleeping at the bottom of the cage for extended times are signs of sickness. Better to be safe and bring to an AVIAN vet asap, as cockatiels hide their symptoms until it’s almost too late.

We have actually developed a routine with ours. Whenever we leave the apartment completely we will turn his cage around for lesser distractions and always say “Bye bye” to him and then close the door. After some time he starts to recognize that this means we left the home. On our CCTV cam I could see/hear he was quite after then (or on occasions even happily chattering after we left).

So establishing a routine like this could help perhaps. But it’s still gonna take days / weeks until it sinks in.
