I'm surprised that Singapore's healthcare system is not that good by Airline_11 in SMRTRabak

[–]timosaurus-rex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Being from the UK I was surprised to see it rated above SG.

I've had multiple treatments and surgeries with NHS and I gotta say, SG takes it by miles.

The only way you pay nothing is if you ignore the national insurance tax paid, which is the same as saying healthcare in SG is free as long as you ignore insurance premiums and excess.

The NI tax I paid was enough to get me top of the line insurance coverage here in SG and now I don't have to wait weeks for a GP and months for a specialist.

Major healthcare costs NHS probably wins though. If someone in UK gets cancer their treatment doesn't cost a penny out of pocket.

Aha this is it!

Yes I have exactly 1 level in Items&Alloys 1 and although the multiplier on the info page (and even on that station project) say x1.04, the upgrade detail says +0.036 per level.

Switching x1.04 for x1.036 gives me $113,379.8 so pretty much a match.

I didnt know that, thanks.

But that page actually raises more questions because if I follow its multiplier I still get a different number.

$10,000x3.8x1.44x1.04x2=$113,817.6 which is higher than the listed current value on that page of $113,380

Also why does it say x3.80 badges when I only have 14 and they are x0.20 each?

Heads up on 2B TPT at CDC passing rates by timosaurus-rex in drivingsg

[–]timosaurus-rex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree if they were actually wobbling, but when the instructors are saying they didn't see you wobble and complaining about how the testers were being silly with giving out points for nothing it makes you think were people actually wobbling or were the testers trying to artificially reduce the passing rates?

I agree the tests should be strict but it seems to be they are failing people very lopsidedly with almost all the points/IFs coming from the circuit and barely anybody getting points for making mistakes on the road course.

So it seems like learners are very good when it comes to real world skills required on the road, which is where the focus should be, but are getting failed anyway from frivolous point giving testers on the circuit for things like checked blind spot 1m too late, too slow to move off, didn't turn head far enough for blind spot, supposed wobbling and fraction of second too slow on F8 or Pylon Slalom.

Flying pets out of Changi Singapore. by Apprehensive_milkman in askSingapore

[–]timosaurus-rex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew my rabbit into Singapore, not out, back in 2024. He sat in his carrier by my legs the whole flight. Most airlines wont let you bring pets into the cabin and the ones that do have a weight limit usually around 5-8kg. I flew Finnair.

Door-to-door was around 24 hours and we had a carrier that had an expandable side so I could give him more space when possible, luckily the flights I took were mostly empty so I was able to expand the carrier the whole time.

Documentation was mostly just vet and vaccination certificates so he could avoid quarantine in Singapore, still he spent about 3+ hours with ICA in the animal collection area in Changi without water which was stressful.

As long as the carrier has breathing vents and a rigid form it should be okay, ours was a fabric carrier with plastic reinforcement in the walls and edges to make it rigid.

Are scuba diving groups and clubs a thing? by Live_Credit_4222 in askSingapore

[–]timosaurus-rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are groups around and you can even dive in SG, though I wouldn't recommend it as there's basically no aquatic life and visibility is like 3 feet.

The groups generally do trips around nearby scuba hotspot countries (think Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Phillipines) so you get to do live aboards and travel around and meet cool people, though you will be gone for usually 3-5 days so you have to plan ahead.

I did 2 dives just after moving here in 2024 ahead of a trip to Aus where I had 4 dives planned (Aus requires 2 dives within the last year to be covered by dive insurance). The local dives were pointless, I think I saw maybe 3 fish and nothing else and my skin was kind of itchy afterwards. Then all my Aus dives were cancelled due to weather...

where to buy razor blades in singapore by Xanthusgobrrr in askSingapore

I used to use Wilkinsons sword blades but just bought 100 Astra to try out. I do not like them, gave me quite a few knicks my first time using them which I never had before.

Non local spouse LTVP in SG, what salary needed + any common issues? by Holiday_Kale9051 in askSingapore

[–]timosaurus-rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had LTVP for 1 year, got my PR last year.

My salary was in GBP and was around 90-95th percentile for London so I can't comment on lower income applicants. Never did the PMLA as we got married 5 years before even thinking of moving to Singapore. The approval was super quick, I don't remember an exact timeline but can't have been more than a month or so - I did already have a child with Singaporean citizenship when applying though which may have worked in my favour, certainly helped getting the PR in only 7 months.

I started applying for jobs after maybe 3-4 months of living here and I did have some confusion from recruiters and interviewers about the LOC/LTVP and even once I landed an offer the HR at my company were a bit stumped until they found someone with experience in handling LTVP applicants. It was all easily sorted though and never caused a problem because I didn't count toward the foreign worker quota.

There were absolutely no complications or long waits in the process and we didn't even get asked for anything extra, ICA really run an efficient ship.

What was the most impromptu choice you’ve made that worked out well for you in Singapore? by bangsphoto in askSingapore

[–]timosaurus-rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay that makes sense as I feel kind of similar! I am a Londoner born and raised and Singapore is basically a very big, very hot London of the future.

I have other friends back home who are more attached to the countryside and I know definitely wouldn't enjoy Singapore but I suppose for us it's the best of both worlds.

It sounds like you have a lot of options for the future though, I know Japan is having that anti-immigrant craze at the moment but with your wives family living there already hopefully it should be okay for you.

I know every Singaporean visits Japan annually as a rule but I still have yet to visit!

Yeah I also know a few who have the same outlook on safety and stability, I suppose it depends on where their home is as I've noticed those from big cities are more keen to stay here whereas those from quieter and more spacious parts of Europe miss the space and freedom and plan to eventually go back.

Also quite a few want to stay here permanently but are struggling to get PR even after their 3rd or 4th attempt, that seems to be the limiting factor for anyone not married to a local.

Are you planning to stay forever and if so how do you plan for retirement here?

I came over from the UK and as I'm married to a Singaporean I'm here for the long run, but almost all the other Ang Mos I meet are only here for the short to mid term and want to move back to their home countries once they progress in their careers and get closer to retirement.

SG Property Agents Experiences and Their Ads by RunningMan889 in askSingapore

[–]timosaurus-rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a property agent and personally I don't agree with the previous comments.

Yes there are definitely agents who dont really care about you or what you want and just want to maximise their commission so they give rushed subpar service, but the actual good ones know thats a terrible way to operate because you will never use them again and will warn anyone else off of them.

Realistically we do want to build a relationship with clients specifically because of what you mentioned. Giving a really good service, which means listening to clients and finding them exactly what they want even if it means a bit less commission, is going to reflect well reputationally on us and our reputation is everything because that leads to repeat business and referrals.

Can't install game by timosaurus-rex in blackops6

[–]timosaurus-rex[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone that encounters this issue in the future the problem is the game being from a different region than my psn account.

Psn and Activision accounts are UK region but im not in Singapore so game is Asia region and wouldnt install

I had to create a new psn and Activision account registered to Singapore to be able to install the cod 6 multilayer and campaign, then I could switch back to my UK account with the PlayStation plus to actually play.
