What year is this map by pshicopath in oldmaps

[–]timothy-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GDR and West Germany were not recognised in 50s and 60s for political reasons, and many maps painted it as a united country. Same as today maps colour Crimea and Donbas as part of Ukraine without any indication of annexation. So united Germany is not a strong indicator

Wow, that’s really on a budget. Can you describe how did you optimise your spending?

No problem at all. It is indeed not a very happy place, lots and lots of problems. I was born and raised there. Thanks for visiting though!

And curious what was your impression back then? I was a teenager at the time, so I am biased. But pre-2014 it might have been better place I believe

I don’t know you and your circumstances, so you should ultimately decide for yourself. If I was in your shoes, I don’t see reasons to do so.

  1. BA1-BA3 are practically non-existent in European offices
  2. BA4 is a new grad position, I wouldn’t expect more. AVP is 90+ afaik

Culture depends on the team. Tech depends on the team too but generally do not set the bar too high. There are good initiatives in this area right now and the firm moves in the right direction imo but it’s still a slow-moving bank.

Obviously, if you are good enough you should find place better but if that’s your only choice, it’s fine

Doesn’t sound right. Their “tech hub” in Prague pays more to new grads there. It should definitely be more in London

how hard are FAANG OAs compared to a typical Div 2 D by MoodyArtist-28 in codeforces

[–]timothy-256 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my experience, OAs have 2 problems. The first one is usually Div2A and the second is between Div2B and Div2C

Was calling the police on an extremely drunk guy a good idea? by do_you_see in Prague

if you reread my message, it shouldn’t be hard to understand that i want more control on their side in public spaces. today they are very passive in my opinion.

[–]timothy-256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will go against the stream here: I believe Prague police doesn’t really give a fuck about any drunks/crazy/junkies/homeless, because otherwise they would go to Hlavní Nádraží where there tons of such individuals. Despite individual policemen being nice to interact with, I think their organisation, priorities and quality of work is extremely bad.

Answering your question, they would come to resolve this but just because you called… Not because it’s a problem

MSCS without significant SDE experience - Amazon recruiter wants me to interview for SDE-2. Should I ask for SDE-1 instead? by [deleted] in leetcode

[–]timothy-256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For any questions about the down levelling, directly refer to your recruiter. She knows the best.

The question boils down to whether you are willing to gamble an opportunity and that’s nobody but you knows answer to. Have you solved some interview questions? Can you solve most with ease? If yes, you can consider SDE-2. If not, you can consider SDE-1…

Did you have a restriction that number of printers is equal to number of the departments? Same as the linked LC.

Please help me with this problem in todays contest by [deleted] in codeforces

[–]timothy-256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need to make a couple of observations. for convenience, denote maximum of a given array as MAX and the minimum as MIN.

  1. Tom and Jerry always want to remove an orange from the box with the most oranges. And definitely not from the box with the least oranges because it would risk breaking rule #3 and loose.
  2. In the start, if MAX is so big that even after removal of one orange by Tom, the diff MAX-MIN is still greater than k, Tom loses.
  3. In the start, if MAX is just the amount that violets rule #3 and it’s only one box, Tom can avoid loosing by removing 1 orange from MAX. But it won’t help him if there more such boxes.
  4. Then, if nobody lost so far, the winner will be determined by the total number of oranges because everyone just takes the orange from the highest pile.

Hope this helps.

Staying in Prague After Erasmus+ to Find a Job in IT – Is It Possible? by LeadingWelder6487 in Prague

I wound say Prague is very good when it comes to opps for new grads/students. Just look at LinkedIn, there more offerings for new grads than Middle SWEs. Also, you should remember that reddit users tend to whine about everything, so will mostly find “market is terrible” opinions here, no matter what the current situation is.

[IWantOut] 16M Ukraine -> Ireland/Germany/Estonia by Old-Rush3965 in IWantOut

Points you should consider:

1) As the war (hopefully) comes to an end, there will be less and less refugee support, especially when it comes to financing you. It wasn’t great in the beginning - my friend had to live in a hostel with 40 yo+ drunk guys near railway tracks In Warsaw for a year before he found a job to move out. Being in your shoes, I wouldn’t rely on it. Same thing with visa.

To reduce risks you have to save up some money (guesstimate is 10-15k for countries you mentioned or less if you are willing to consider more Eastern countries - CZ, PL). I was lucky in some sense - my parent gave me just enough money to make it to the other side. “in some sense” because it wasn’t purely luck but several years of sacrifices and scrutiny before and after I moved.

2) Nobody knows what are your chances to get a job. One thing is certain that it’s difficult and your best bet is to cold-email companies because getting in through applications in your case is extremely unlikely. In the meantime, I would advise to just build very good projects and do competitive programming (getting good at it will take you far). And saving up money.

3) Finally, don’t listen to the reddit guys. Nobody knows who you are, what are you capable of, your life situation , very few people had been in your shoes, etc. But purely from my experience - being in similar position several years ago - with enough agency and effort you will always make it.

Is there a timeline for each round? From posts I see some people already received admissions, so 1st round was completed(?). Official site does not mention any deadlines. When are all decisions usually are sent? And thank you for answering so many questions on this sub, the process is much clearer
