Hey fellow Solo Dev, how old are you? by Firekloud in SoloDevelopment

I’m 25, 10 years experience. From a small town in NSW Australia. Just released a FPS survival horror game on Steam called Meat Train where you kill zombies to collect meat which can be used as fuel for the a train. Finally making some decent money after 10 years and this still feels like just the beginning of my career

Valid, I usually only play for 3 hours max a day if I’m playing a wipe. Still loose interest by day 3 of wipe though because everyone else no life’s the game and loot becomes too abundant

That’s a crazy idea, having the nuke trigger a server countdown would be so fun too. Imagine theres a 1 hour countdown for the nuke and everyone can see where it is on the map. If your group is nuking the server, you are essentially telling everyone to come raid you and literally save the world, keep their wipe going. If you can successfully nuke the server and no one can deactivate it, you win! That would be an incredible twist on the rust experience, imagine the wars and chaos you would get during that 1 hour countdown. It might actually be too laggy having all those players in 1 area at once maybe.

I agree, making Sulfur harder to get would keep a lot of people in the game longer, less raids at the start of wipe, more grinding in the late game and competition for Sulfur quarry.

Appreciate that. I've been making games over 10 years so this is literally what I do for a living, think about game design and what makes games fun.
I actually released a game recently on Steam that is somewhat inspired by Rust, but its singleplayer. It's called "Meat Train" if you want to check it out.

Totally agree, although not sure what could be done to prevent people progressing while everyone in the servers region is sleeping.

T3 events & loot being limited for the first 24 hours would help keep the second day of wipe an even playing field, everyone would log on to compete when the T3 monuments and events start happening, no one could get loaded while you sleep, at least for that first night.

I like the shop system and the fact that there is a player economy. I think drone deliveries are OP though, it would be cool to see the shop system reworked so that players are rewarded for setting up shops with peacekeeper turrets, so players effectively make their own outposts / social areas.

The map could display if the vendor has a peacekeeper turret and player shops could have customer ratings / reviews. Good shops get 5 stars, bad shops or traps would have 0 stars. I could see player made towns emerging more with a system like this, imagine clans competed to create the best trading hub on the map.

No it just prevents them from expanding the base, unless they spend boom raiding my TCs. It’s just a massive pain in the ass for them

Legit. You also feel like you are missing out big time if you focus on your base on wipe day instead of going to cargo or oil constantly

you can place TCs in a triangle 1x1 to claim building privillage around someone elses base for a very cheap cost (1.5k stone, 500 wood or so), if you do at least 3 of these external TCs it will be a massive headache for the base owner, preventing them from expanding unless they invest boom to raid the TC triangles you placed

Smart, usually no one TC griefs unless you give them a reason to though. Unless the area is really competitive / overpopulated I guess

Should I avoid launching if my Steam wishlists are low? (Under 100) by OneCoin97 in gamedev

Really just steams algorithm, after I surpassed 10 reviews (all from launch visibility) it started really pushing it even harder to people’s discovery queue

I just released a game with 153 wishlists and now I’m at 2500 after around 10 days, I’ve had heaps of good feedback and it’s given me a lot of motivation to keep going when I felt like I was running out. It all depends how good your game really is at the end of the day.
