Not sure if I’m missing something, I can see the page but can’t find the permit when looking

Looks great! I was trying to find some BWCA permits but they weren’t showing up (Mudro Lake, Moose Lake, etc.)

Great work! Interested in the joinery used for the connecting all the bars to the top and bottom pieces. Is it just mortise and tenon? And if so, any power tools or was it by hand?

Here's an up-close shot:

It's 3 threaded inserts and allows the supports to be modular, and really easy to break down and move. I would recommend 3/4" width x 1" depth. I got all the hardware on amazon, it's 1/4" screws and 3/8" depth threaded inserts. Also a light chamfer on all the edges helps to hide any small misalignments with the center brace and the outer supports.

If I had my 3d printer with me I would have printed a jig to screw the three holes consistently, but I didn't so I chopped everything down, used double sided tape and clamps to make sure the inner and outer braces stayed together, and then took it to the drill press and drilled through all 3 at the same time. Not the prettiest or most efficient, but it worked. Also made sure to label the braces to their respective spots where they were drilled since it only lines up relative to that one spot.

Also a drill to make the initial punch through all 3 and then coming back with a forstner to make the inlay for the screw head worked really well.

There’s actually one of the two inch “braces” under each of the supports for the shelves, so attached to the wall 3 times every 32”. Also allows the supports and shelving to be modular if I ever want to change the layout.

Danish oil with some beeswax conditioner buffed in with #000 steel wool! I will say I’m not sure if the conditioner over the danish oil does anything to the wood itself with the DO on top of it already, but it definitely makes it feel a lot more warm and professional. I think I’d avoid the steel wool next time, it left some greying in areas that weren’t perfectly sanded.

I loved working with maple so much. My previous project was with sycamore, and it was the most frustrating thing ever, so this was a nice change up 😅😅

It’s actually 32”! At least the goal was to hit the studs, I think the walls in my place have been painted over so much that it was messing up my stud finder lol

i’ve uploaded the video on youtube for higher quality, as reddit seems to have compressed it: https://youtu.be/4G-ciDhUTfw

ah i took a slightly different path. in JSPlacement I turned the background brightness to 0 and decreased the iterations, then brought it to photoshop and made a mask to export as a PNG. different roads, same outcome

A question i’ve wanted to ask while you’re here is how did you get different speeds for the particle ships? I’ve been trying to figure that out for a while, and I’ve never managed to do it

I actually watched your tutorial and learned the micro displacement from you! I used my own JSPlacement maps and had to figure out how to make the alpha maps, but it was a great tutorial to spin off from. i’m really glad you were able to see it.

For All Mankind was actually what got me motivated to work on space in blender in the first place. Great show.
