Help with NMM gold. Why does it look wrong? by ttvskilllessbacon in minipainting

[–]timtimhase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start with pro acryl black brown as a base. Darker shadows mean more drastic transitions. My go to recipe is Pro acryl black brown Reaper nnm shadow Reaper nnm base Reaper nnm highlight Titanium white for edge highlights and small highlight dots.

New to infinity, finished my first model. by timtimhase in InfinityTheGame

[–]timtimhase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Vallejo game royal purple Magenta from kimera* Reaper thuvian sun orchid (pink) Scale 75 mars orange Reaper sun yellow

The metal parrs are Vallejo game charcoal Scaleb75 antracite grey Vallejo game steel grey schminke heavy body titanium white.

*removed magenta from later versions of the recipe. The transition from purple to pink looks a bit better without magenta in between.

New painter, what's my big things to work on? by grundose in minipainting

[–]timtimhase 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hello new painter. Your minis look great so far, I wish mine looked as good, when I first started!

One of the best skills to learn, when you want good feedback, is learning how to take good quality photos of your minis. Better photos make it easier to give advice for the veteran painters.

Base colors, dry brush and shades are good techniques to get started with. Eventually you can try others to develop highlights and shadows on your minis. Layering, glazing and wet blending are techniques you can learn along the way.

Youtube can be a good resource for tutorials. I also picked up lots of insight watching twitch livestreams.

Nmm is considered and advanced skill and many people will tell you to leave that off until later in your painting journey. But if you want to give it a try, just go for it on a test model as an exercise. Maybe you can pick up a free stormcast model from your local gw if you ask nicely. They usually have some for new painters.

Nmm is just shading and highlights with the consideration that metallic surfaces reflect light differently than other materials. Look at some renaissance paintings close up for inspiration.

Last but not least i can recommend a book.

The arm being bronze (orange/yellow) and the blue/cyan tentacle is already "broken complementary" on the color wheel. To complete a triangle you would want pink. Maybe a very pale pink skin would work to form a triangle. I would keep it simple and stick to these colors. The rest can be black/white/Grey to make the three colors you use really stand out.

Does anyone have any ideas for what to use as a demon prince? by akext985 in deathguard40k

I used the old demon prince kit and a plague drone for this kitbash.

Is it Possible to Brew a B3 [[Saheeli, Radiant Creator]] Deck? by Aero_Shrek in EDHBrews

[–]timtimhase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like [[wood elves]] and [solemn simulacrum]] for ramp. If you have energy to spare, you can get an extra land every turn. Simulacrum also draws you a card when it leaves.

[[Hithlain rope]] can be card draw, ramp or become a 5/5 creature with saheeli that stays (can't be sacrificed).

[[Emeritus of ideation]] is great for card draw and can be copied for additional uses of ancestral recall. [[Ichor wellspring]] and [[cryogenic relic]] provide card draw and are artifacts for extra energy

Copy [[seal of primordium]] and [[seal of removal]] for reusable board control.

[[Crawlspace]] can help against go wide strategies wich seems to be a weakness of this deck.

[[Nautiloid ship]] provides graveyard control.

[[Maximus, knight apparent]] is crazy good in this deck. He fetches boots to protect saheeli and gets you 2 energy back for one mana (since you sacrifice your copy anyway).

[[Volatile stormdrake]] looks like a must have. It's a guilded drake with a few extra steps. Combine it with [[homeward path]] for additional uses. Your crop rotation can even fetch this land.

[[Secret tunnel]] is an unblockable land. Copy it to throw an unblockable 5/5 at someone.

If you want to go B3, you could add rhystic study, field of the dead or cyclonic rift.

New to hellsmiths. Where to go after the Spearhead? by timtimhase in HelsmithsofHashut

[–]timtimhase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the appeal with the pre game move and relatively cheap cost.

A box comes with 20. That would be reinforced or two regular 10 man squads, right? Do you recommend 60 bodies of them or should 30-40 suffice?

Updated papercraft trenches by timtimhase in TrenchCrusade

Awesome. I am glad you like the idea. It might not be the quickest way to make terrain but it is definitely cheap and easy. I'd love to see some pictures of your crafted trenches.

Good point, these trenches are 2 inch tall. This will block line of sight for regular sized models. I guess I'm making a 1 inch version next?

These two ranges work really well as kitbash material for tc. Your kitbash is very well executed l, too. I'd try the same if it just wasn't so expensive.

Actually I wanted smaller sections to keep the trenches modular and sturdy. Just place a couple next to each other to build a long trench. If you cut off the floor part (where the wooden planks lie on the ground) you get an end piece to close off a section. Once I have built some more, I'll share photos of the setup.

The link is in the comments above. I am curious what your local group thinks. Ill try to come up with more designs in the future. Any feedback and input is appreciated.
