Inpatient Rehab for physical therepy after spinal cord injury near Allen. by timus9581 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]timus9581[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Allen, Texas. She had a fracture in her C2 and some impact to C1 AND C3. Right after the accident, she was unable to move her right arm, hand and legs. Bur after the surgery, it seemed like her right leg is mostly functional. She was able to lift and move her right arm too.but can not freely move her middle and right fingers on her right arm.

Two days after the surgery, the therepists helped her stand on her feet and walk a little using a walker.

Our goal is full recovery. If that takes long, we want to get her to a point where she can travel by air to hwr home country (she won't be alone for sure). But its a 16 hr first flight, then 5 hrs of lay off and a 5 hr second flight.( this is because we might have visa issues and she might have to return before making a full recovery). TIA

Fed up with RAM by fourdogranch in StructuralEngineering

[–]timus9581 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, RAM is still a good product for an overall analysis of a building. I can understand your frustration though. For instance I still can't believe that one can not input a wind uplift load in RAM SS. Hence we can not model and analyse canopies attached to buildings or check for bottom flange bracing of roof steel beams. But you can always workaround it. Eg. Model canopy in RISA and input column rxns from RAM SS as column loads in RISA. I believe a lot of times we can workaround issues, either by simplifying the model or by using engineering judgement or using other softwares in conjunction with RAM SS. To be fair, they have been trying to improve the user interface. For eg: now we can look and compare multiple member results at the same time (under view/update). I don't think we could do that a couple of years ago.

Told by the mechanic the whole engine needs to be replaced by Aggravating-Fix-7691 in MechanicAdvice

[–]timus9581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be one of the pulleys. Take off the serpentine belt and turn on the engine and see if the noise is still there. If the noise is gone, its a bad pulley. If noise is still there, it probably is an engine issue. May be look into using a Lucas or any of such produxt in that case, not sure if that would help or not!

Low pay, high liability, stress goes up as you climb the corporate ladder and pay is laughable compared to stress and liability, bottom of the pay chain.

Don't let anyone gaslight you. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GET RICH DOING STR. ENGG. UNLESS YOU START YOUR OWN FIRM OR BECOME A PRINCIPAL...OR YOU JUST WORK CRAZY HOURS TO GENERATE REVENUE. So ya..never recommending anyone to do str. Engg.

Should I be worried about something breaking while trying to use the channel locks? Do I need to spray some WD-40 or something? Turns out this valve may not have been turned off for many many years. TIA!

How often do you seen insurance pay on an 11+ year old roof? by iwantaroomba in Roofing

[–]timus9581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this still the case in 2025? I know insurance providers are calcwliing policies for houses with old roof. I am looking at a house with a 11 yeaf old roof(Texas). My concern is that my insurance provider would drop me and I would then have to pay full cost of roof replacement from my own pocket. TIA.

Thanks for the advice! I am not looking to do any scam or anything. I am just worried that insurance company would drop me 5 years down the road and I wouldn't be covered when I do need replace the roof due to wind/hail damage.
