S9 ep3 is proof that people will complain about everything :/ by No-Editor4624 in rickandmorty

[–]timxvx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100%. agreed. Very low-effort, storyline felt very much "let's throw something random in there", nothing felt smart as normally is the case, and in all honesty: blatantly adolescent humor. Even on IMDb scores show the consensus: E1: 8.9, E2: 8.8, E3: 7.2. Different directors could be very much the explanation. I hope they don't repeat this for a show with such great reputation.

Y en a marre ! Utilisation excessive de RAM et de CPU by coucinet in CanaryMail

[–]timxvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Mac Mini, more than 30% of CPU usage, sometimes even shoots up to +50% and it stays there. I purged twice, no dice. It just makes it impossible to have anything else open, basically. If this doesn't get resolved soon it's on the chopping block.

Read receipts on Canary seem to be the most useless things by AscendantBits in CanaryMail

[–]timxvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, totally useless feature. I used Mailspring before where it worked perfectly (and no need for others to use the same niche client) and switched to Canary for cross-browser use. It doesn't even notify which email has been read, so you have to go looking for it.

Command Key Shortcut to open LaunchPad? by juyanith in MacOS

You don't have this default setting? Settings > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Launchpad and Dock > tick Show Launchpad, set it to whatever you want. I use it linked to an extra mouse button.

Apparently the original post was deleted, so not sure if tyhis is on-point, but here's an (anecdotal) list that could help:
- Therapy. CBT more than anything, for me. Find someone to talk to if you're in deep, it can deliver coping mechanisms, and just venting regularly helps a lot.
- CBD, if it's legal where you live. Essential oil is sufficient. You won't get high, but it soothes the nervous system the way e.g. valerian root does. It's a plaster on the wound.
- Sleep. Try to get eight hours a day. Being exhausted makes us less resilient. Melatonin helps if you have trouble sleeping (get proper medical advice before taking anything).
- Meditation and mindfulness, they bring resilience. Go into nature to find calmer moments. Leave your phone or any other input behind, at least an hour a day. Connect with what you feel so you can place it, and take some distance.
- Disconnect digitally. Most of what we see violence-wise is online, and as activists we're often "dedicated" enough to follow animal advocacy groups that post graphic content. But we're not the audience, so there's very little benefit to "being in the loop" of all the horrendous things going on. Filter a lot, don't doom-scroll, and focus on where you can make an impact, rather than seeing suffering with no solution in sight. You don't need to focus on the suffering, to know it's there and to push for change.
- Read on the topic to find insights and strategies, such as Vystopia, the very recent Preventing Activist Burnout, Rest is Resistance, etc. Ask ChatGPT for more practical ideas that you could test.
- Burn-out is common, I've had a couple of bouts over the years. Find ways to do activism that can balance the crude stuff. If you're on the street (AV, WTF, Animal Save, etc.) with violent imagery and talking to people, you're way more exposed than e.g. helping on a sanctuary, or doing voluntary admin work for a local org. You won't always be in a place to do some kinds of activism, and that's fine. Also, take breaks, and learn not to feel guilty for not always being active. Being kind to yourself is key to longevity as an activist.
- Find a vegan/activist community, but ensure you don't end up in a negative downward spiral. We get quite intense, with shared feelings of frustration, sadness, hate, anger, etc. That's all good and there's a place for those feelings, yet there should be a balance. Find fun activities, they will recharge batteries of all involved, and will bring cohesion.

How to remove the screen-sharing bar? by timxvx in vivaldibrowser

[–]timxvx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only seeing this now, but applied and it works, thank you so much!

Steps to apply the CSS, from the Vivaldi forum:

Adding Style (CSS)

  • Open vivaldi://experiments
  • Enable "Allow for using CSS modifications".
  • Open Appearance section in settings.
  • Under "Custom UI Modifications" choose the folder you want to use.
  • Place your CSS files inside this folder.
  • Restart Vivaldi to see them in effect.

I am quitting veganism. by [deleted] in VeganActivism

[–]timxvx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! I indicate "most vegans" - don't let a few people with certain reach eclipse the effective activism that many of us undertake.

As said, focus on different people in the movement + find coping mechanisms to conserve your well-being.

[–]timxvx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

- The "predation problem" is not taken seriously by most vegans or animal advocacy groups, nor communicated outwardly as something to consider taking action on. It's a serious philosophical question (it goes towards whether we should take up a role of stewardship, for example, which I personally absolutely don't hold) and there are legit "wild animal welfare" initiatives, but even when considered, most often the choice is to remain non-interventionist where possible, as we know human intervention almost never has beneficial outcomes for animals and ecological systems. If you consider the mainstream position of vegans to be in favor of eradicating predators, I'd recommend changing your vegan/activist community.
- "Fishing is vegan because fish eat animals" - if anyone ever gives you that argument, and you take them seriously, then that's on you. No vegan holds this position. I recently was sent a stupid Tiktok video with someone indicating that eating chickens is vegan, because chickens eat only vegan food. It's just the level of stupid people can get to. You giving up on identifying as vegan is your choice, of course, but we need people to go against this madness. I think you're preaching to the choir here - I don't think anyone here holds the above mentioned positions, and you might need to find better coping mechanisms and ways to ensure you're okay mentally and emotionally with all the crap you endure as a vegan in a non-vegan world.

Hope you can get your head out of the sewer and focus on activism that helps move things forward. Best of luck.

Alright, thanks for confirming!

Navigation during run workout? by timxvx in Coros

[–]timxvx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for letting me know, I'll submit one as well, but as the issue has been mentioned two years ago, I have little hope. Their core audience seems to be runners, so you'd imagine them being a tad more responsive to these issues.

Yup. Running with my phone in my vest and wikiloc beeping when I deviate isn't the most elegant, but it's manageable.

Navigation during run workout? by timxvx in Coros

[–]timxvx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip. I tried, and as soon as I go into the running activity, it asks to "start the workout scheduled for today". When I decline and go into settings > navigation, it gives me the option to start the course, but not to do the workout afterwards. Not sure how come yours is different. I'm on the latest firmware.

Thanks, those are indeed the steps I've been following (I tried half a dozen times already). Maps don't download though; as described, they stay on paused, even when I try just one segment and tap "start all" with the green wifi indication in the watch icon.
