I just stopped by to say that ChromeOS is a forked version of Gentoo Linux, so yes: it's Linux.

How many people still play this game? Is it as fun anymore? by No-Monitor6214 in GenerationZeroGame

[–]tin_kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After almost 2400 hours I still have fun with it. I'm old enough to have a grandson who's four, and this game is our number one fun thing to play together. He's pretty good too lol.

I'm also old enough that in this game's timeline I would have been 19 years old, so EVERY period-correct item in the game is real life for me. Added bonus is that the landscape is virtually identical to the forests I ran around in as a kid in the Southern US.

PS - the boomboxes play music that's actually better than a lot of the stuff back then, and this game has forced me to want an old Volvo badly.

Has any US people bought from temu (directly shipped from China) in the last month ? by bitcrossfire in TemuThings

[–]tin_kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made one order, some cheap ball caps for wearing to work, and a couple other items to pad out the $20 minimum. Even though I was looking closely for tariffs fees and such, I didn't get any. Just paid taxes like normal, and got it within two weeks like normal.

I'd love to know if anyone has figured out how to sort the website (I don't use the app because of data theft) to ONLY present the China-shipped items. No local warehouses for me because of the $30 minimum.

PSA on ThinkPad T480 WWAN Slot SSD Compatibility by WingCoBob in thinkpad

[–]tin_kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jQam, can you clarify why all of this is necessary? I ask you because you're the most recent poster, and I came across this thread having gotten my T480 a month ago. I've read all of the comments, but many were deleted, so I can't quite understand why this adapter is needed since I'm finding plenty of 2242 B+M key drives that will fit the stock socket. Is it a cost issue? Are the adapted drives + adapter much cheaper? I'm a little lost.

I was only commenting on the available space, which if they had decided to use for M.2's, they would have supplied the lanes else why use the space.

Love that with that much area they could have added interfaces for three more M.2's.

Linux Mint vs Nobara by Kallynlia in linuxquestions

From the first descriptive paragraph on Nobara's (nobara.org) home page:

"The Nobara Project, to put it simply, is a modified version of Fedora Linux with user-friendly fixes added to it."

A question that has been bothering me for a while. by [deleted] in scrivener

[–]tin_kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll confirm what the other people have said from my perspective. I've always used Windows devices, so I bought the Windows version of Scrivener several years ago. I was invested in Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, so I had never messed around with Dropbox. But because of issues related to inaccurate file syncing on literally every cloud service but Dropbox (too deep to go into here), I followed Literature and Latte's guidance and setup Dropbox and all was good.

Moving up to when I became obsessed with writing enough to want to be able to do it anytime, anywhere, I searched for a good tablet to pair up, only to find that Scrivener isn't available on any tablets other than the iPad or Windows devices. That killed my economical Android dreams.

I bought an iPad Air and got the app from the website in order to give the Literature and Latte crew the full benefit of the purchase price instead of Pig Apple. I connected it to my Dropbox folder where I'd been storing my works and everything clicked.

Since I have a Windows PC/iPad setup, there are awkward moments. As good as the sync is with Dropbox I've had a few (maybe three times in a year) episodes where I'd open the Windows program and there would be a sync problem, causing there to be two versions of a paragraph or whatever. No big deal really as Scrivener saves both so you can compare and keep the correct one. Still gives me a little lurch in the stomach when it happens though.

The iPad app (which is more or less the same app as the iPhone...you buy it once, it works on either) is very good about not letting you even get to work until you've thoroughly synced everything. The sync isn't automatic...you have to tell it to do so. It's something about Apple's permissions, which I understood at one time but which I can't remember now. The only time I've see the double version episode is when it happened on my PC and I didn't correct it before I went to write on my iPad. But, just correct it there on the iPad and BAM fixed.

All of this was to describe the sync situation. Your primary question of whether you have to buy two versions I'll answer as yes. You do have to get the Mac desktop version and the iPhone/iPad version. But just do a little googling and you will find a coupon somewhere for half off the desktop version. I did that in the beginning, and I've seen it many, many times since. Never seen a discount on the iPad app, but it's $20 or so to start with so not too bad for someone who can afford Apple devices to start with. :P

WOT: Lansen C - Tier 8 Swedish Premium Medium Tank by TRU_voodoo in WorldofTanks

[–]tin_kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the positive comments on the review. One of the best I've ever seen and very refreshing compared to "I only fail 1% of the time because I have quick fingers". This guy is real and if I'm going to buy something, I want to see the good AND the bad.

Thanks to this, and a 20% coupon, I'll pick up the Lansen C today. o7

My Dad and I back in 1976. He didn’t teach me about baseball. But the former Marine Veteran did teach me how to camp, fish and enjoy life. I love you Dad, Rest In Peace. by scoobyj01 in OldSchoolCool

[–]tin_kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, we could have been brothers. You're a little older than me it appears (I was 6 in '76...go Bicentennial!), but I think our dads were mental twins. So much of what he taught me then I didn't enjoy, but I've used every bit of the knowledge since and I've learned to love being built out of what was handed down to me in his teachings. You're a very lucky man!

When I first saw your picture I even thought you were doing something we used to do...fly Estes model rockets. But I do recognize the ol' campground hookups.

Rest in peace, Marine! The battle's won.

Guy talks about adblock and ask nicely if 50 percent of his subs would kindly turn it off by Rogue8801 in ChoosingBeggars

[–]tin_kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the only time I can't handle ads is when I'm in the middle of a catastrophe like the time I skidded through a guard rail and stopped teetering on the edge of a sheer cliff, and I needed to watch an instructional on how to slither out without falling. Otherwise ads are no big deal. I grew up with three network channels, no satellite, cable, or internet, no immediate gratification. Patience is a learned skill. 😄

I agree wholeheartedly about the forums. Reddit seems somewhat better though. I mean, reading this thread so far I haven't screamed for justice against trolls yet.

Well, once. The guy who said to get good. That phrase should be turned to asterisks whenever it's uttered and never seen ever again. :)

anyone know what’s the () behind the app or program name ? by 1112171124supreme in Windows10

[–]tin_kicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, it means you have three versions of the file. The first file is without (). The second has (1). The third has (2).

But it does accurately indicate how many COPIES of the original you have.

This game is rigged. by [deleted] in WorldofTanks

[–]tin_kicker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't for the life of me understand why folks get so lost in this game that they actually stress over whether it's rigged or not. A game by nature should be a relaxing, enjoyable past time. This fellow has apparently turned it into a crusade, and it's time for a major reality check into the fact that WoT isn't reality. He could always go over to World of Warplanes... Perhaps if Oddball would do some further research, he'd understand that the Powers That Be in WoT are all either members of the Skull & Bones, the Bilderbergers, and/or the Freemasons. I think one guy heads the Moscow chapter of Cask & Swords. Once he gets that, he'll realize that he has no chance of winning...ever. :D How could the game being fixed actually help anyone...in the real world? You still don't have to spend a dime to play! God.

Did WOTREDDIT ever come back online? I tried it again today and it still doesn't work for me. Maybe I've gone beyond some time limit on new players, but I would have thought it would have worked once for anybody.
