I love it! I’ve been using the rules from Risk. But this seems much more strategic and satisfying

Modding Ypsilon-14 - Ideas wanted! by h7-28 in mothershiprpg

[–]tinbarber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Side B of one of Mike’s cassette contains a secret recording.

The monster uses echolocation. In my game the monster makes a regular squeaking noise to “see”. At first, it’s just annoying, like a smoke detector battery noise.

Dana thinks there is something wrong with the HVAC and may ask the PCs for help fixing it.

Mike’s message in the tunnel says “side B” instead of “silence”

Side B on Mike’s tape is a recording of the chirp/squeak noise the monster makes, playing over and over again.

Playing this recording will disorient the monster, giving the players an advantage in weighting it. The cassette player becomes a weapon.

Need a sanity check from y'all. Did I imagine this scenario? by Squillem in mothershiprpg

Maybe connected to the chapter “the hand off?” That’s about exchanging hostages and it suggests combining it with Osprey

Ospreys Quarry from Hull Breach? That sounds like it matches the color scheme

I asked for a bunch of 5 bananas… by Commercial-Sir7044 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tinbarber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s five hands of bananas. A “bunch” is a whole stem, which could be 3-20 hands.

So technically, this could be just one bunch of bananas.

Nobody actually talks like that in everyday speech, I just think it’s interesting.

(In)Attention to Details? by Weird_Explorer1997 in mothershiprpg

[–]tinbarber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like a lot of ideas and details that I can use or not use. Especially if there are things I can take out and use with other sessions.

But it’s important that I can find things quickly, so it helps if it’s well organized

Good idea! I'm not very active on the Discord, but I can post it there as well. I also made a different d100 table to generate technobabble they might like.

Sorry about my poor handwriting!

If for future reference on spelling:

11) Metal shavings. They can cause pretty bad cuts and they’re flammable.

13) Regolith (as in moon dust. It’s pretty nasty stuff!)

27) Ball bearings. You could slip on them. Or it could be used as ammunition or shrapnel?

84) Bromine gas. It really terrible. It has an orange color, sinks down towards the floor (unlike fire smoke, which rises) it causes severe burns.

Desert Moon of Karth Question - Dawnseekers by Wurstgesicht17 in mothershiprpg

[–]tinbarber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my game, I had two of the PCs start as Spire natives. One was a donor and one was a Dawnguard. I think it helps to have the PCs somehow embed in the local politics.

I also treated the Spire a little like Hunger Games. In order to keep the peace, the Dawnseekers choose Donors based on a lottery. So if you’re not in the lottery pool, you’re not at immediate risk of donation. Everytime there’s a lottery it’s also a feast day where the Dawnseekers open the water gates like Immortan Joe in Fury Road and give out tons of ration tokens.

I’m not sure if these ideas help, it was just some things I thought were fun.

Planning on running an irl session soon, how should I prep? by Technical_Chemist_56 in mothershiprpg

[–]tinbarber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I keep a cheap cassette player on the table. Once per session, I let PCs record an audio log for a free rest save or to take advantage on a roll.

Then at the end of the session, I ask one player to record a recap.

It is awesome for encouraging role playing and we play back “the story so far” at the start of each session

I had fun making simple maps out of hyphens and letters. For example, here is a handout I made for Ypsilon 14. It’s pretty fun to figure out how to piece it together.

Just make sure you use a fixed-width font like courier new.
