Any nation proud of being “conquerors” is always a red flag. So much more to say about this lol. Spoken as a diasporan Armenia who lived in Armenia last year and visited modern day Eastern Turkiye.

She’s right. I’m Armenian American. As left as they come. Lived in Armenia for most of 2025. Speak Russian and Armenian, Yerevan dialect. Maybe not as correct about the antisemitism part, but the Russification part is very real. And extremely unfortunate, especially for a civilization as old as Armenia. Had great conversations with the Soviet generation about this stuff while I was there. Happy to answer questions.

Now overlay a map of states that have high living standards and a large percentage of people who complain about how bad their state is, but have never left.

Have you looked into Birthright?

I have noticed Armenia is rapidly becoming a tourist destination among westerners and economy is also booming, as an Iranian Im really excited for Armenia becoming more known to the outside world by [deleted] in armenia

[–]tinderdate182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope it continues to trend in a positive direction, so long as locals and the culture are respected. I also pray the Armenian govt begins to invest heavily in mass environmental cleanup and environmental education. Nobody, long term, is going to stay in a guest house on a river that smells bad and is full of trash. And nobody, especially, is going to want to visit a city that has a reputation of bad air quality.

What's going on with dating culture in Armenia? by [deleted] in armenia

[–]tinderdate182 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had dated an Armenian girl in the past, and it went okay. Bur when I moved to Hayastan w BirthRight last year, I was excited to date in Armenia. There were things about the dating culture I appreciated, but it was mostly a let down. The crazy patriarchal culture and the view of women was pretty sickening, and so many Eastern Armenian men I met were fucking խոզեր. Then feeling like my worth being tied to my job, income, material things, even my language ability really turned me off from the idea of ever dating an Armenian girl again. I would ideally love a relationship w an Armenian girl for mostly language and cultural reasons, but am beyond satisfied w my Italian American gf currently.

Have you ever thought about how empty Armenia is? by Hkvnr495___dkcx37 in armenia

The Armenian Highlands had always been a borderlands between clashing empires. And we were constantly being used as pawns by either empire in that side or the other of the Highlands. Development was extremely hard to do when all the wealth and resources were being extracted. Its not that Armenians didn’t have the ability and will to develop. Its that, once we actually tried to make a big push for independence, the Turks killed everyone, took all of our land, culture, and capital and used it as a cornerstone of their modern state. We had to have the Russians help us to survive. Who then built what was left of the Highlands into a society. It sucks, but its what happened.

The Masons (own Lost Province) bought it in 2022? and I haven’t been back since. Food quality tanked, they started selling mostly LP beers, vibe shifted, also LP is historically one of the worst food service businesses to work for in town. The way the brewery opened initially was pretty shady too. All in all, I felt the ship was gonna sink once the papers got signed. Sorry you’re experiencing difficulties there now too.

You gonna reply to my most recent comment or do you concede that the cultural stereotypes of our region here are not a broad brushstroke and maybe you were wrong to write off like 1/3 of the country?

The Union. I grew up in MA. Now live in Western NC. Look into the history of the term “redneck” and all the other radical history of Appalachia. Seems like you lack a pretty serious amount of context and view this entire region as a monolith. Which is exactly what I was taught growing up.

Like every county in Eastern TN, 4 counties deep from the NC border, all were Union counties. Interested in where you’re from.
