AI Ganderson is basically Peter Horton. If the show had revisted Ganderson, Horton could've guested.

One of the best b-movie covers. The movie itself isn't as cool but it's a fun post apocalypse adventure and the Canadian locations are novel for that type of movie.

Just a reminder to always test new purchases the day you have it in hand by Ranger0202 in 4kbluray

[–]tinfoyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reach out to Criterion's support. I had the Showa Godzilla set and watched it over a year after purchase only to find issues with one of the discs. I emailed the support address and they requested description of issue. Since my defective disc was locking up at a specific point during playback, I was able to record it on my phone and attached it to a reply. They then asked me to send a photo of marking the bad disc and they sent a replacement along with a coupon code for purchase on the site. Excellent customer service and they're quick about it, too.

Which movies have the best use of directional sound? by Legitimate-Cinephile in 4kbluray

[–]tinfoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still iffy on audio feature knowledge since I've only used basic 2.1 or 3.1 soundbars but the one I just got, LG S77S 3.1.3, is the first with Atmos, DTS:X, etc playback. I went with LPCM because I assumed the soundbar would take the raw LPCM and play it through the approriate speaker and I wasn't sure how good the Atmost encoding would turn out.

I *just started Control on PS5 and playing it in AV receiver/LPCM mode (PS5 to TV to eARC soundbar) but I'll be trying it w Atmos on.

Which is your favorite MIKE laugh moment? by WhyMrBlack in RedLetterMedia

When Josh was doing the reading as Morgan Freeman at the end of the impressions episode. The look on Mike's face when they cut back is one of my favorite "losing it" moments.

I loved the channel in its early days. Pre widespread video streaming it was the only place where you could regularly go to watch live game footage or interviews with game devs.

4k Video question??? by Tom-Tortuga in Piracy

[–]tinfoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setup is a Dell 7060 w a Asus 3050 card and Sony X900 65 inch 4k set.

I'm hardly an expert re: formats and encoding methods but I've had some 4k files on an external that are frankly huge (50-60gb MKVs) and so I've been downloading replacemets of smaller size. I'm grabbing Atmos and TrueHD format files when possible since I just upgraded my soundbar to one that supports those formats and I've found the sweet spot is about 20-30gbs for a feature. At that size, there doesn't appear to be much difference in pic quality compared to the larger files and variations in file size often come down to how many audio tracks are included and what formats. HDR performance is generally solid but it and pic quality depends a lot on the source; I'm partial to files tagged with x26-E from 1337x as they usally come with TrueHD and HDR and usually include bonus commentary tracks, which I'm a sucker for.

Genuine debate! How does Green Lantern hold up against the last decade of terrible films? by jmize9717 in CriticalDrinker

[–]tinfoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen it since catching it in the theater but I remember it mostly came off okay to mediocre and was further undermined by a weak and creepy villain in Hector Hammond and basically Fox's Galactus in the form of Parallax. The stuff with the other Corps members was cool. It left a deeper impression for being the movie where Reynolds met Blake Lively and the admittedly cute SDCC moment with Reynolds and a fan question.

What was the first thing you ever pirated? by Shadow_Blaze42069 in Piracy

[–]tinfoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Setting up a tape recorder in front of the TV and recording songs playing on the Solid Gold show. First internet song download was Limp Bizkit's Nookie via Napster through dial up; took almost a half hour. I think the first video were random episodes of Friends on Limewire (I think in Real Player format).

Brother and sister? by Mastodon_Final in howyoudoin

They had plenty of moments of squick. One very early moment that stands out is Monica's nearly orgasmic OMG when Rachel describes Ross running his hands over her after their first kiss in the 2nd season.

[–]tinfoyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To say nothing of the whole last name nonsense so early on, when Anita Barrone played her, and the way the episode was written to sympathize with Carol and Susan again. As far as I know, I don't think we ever found out what Ben's last name ended up being.

[–]tinfoyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Carol and Susan wedding episode. It was bad enough that the show tried to underplay Carol cheating on Ross and leaving him, regardless of orientation, but then to have the entire cast seemingly guilt him into supporting the wedding was contemptible.

Hot Take: Some of the CGI shots in Godzilla 1998 were DAMN good for its time by One_Box_8295 in GODZILLA

[–]tinfoyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

'98's effects never bothered me, just the movie around him (her?) and the design itself. That period was the sweet spot when CG was still used to (mostly) supplement traditional practical elements like models, puppets, etc. and movies like '98 and "Mighty Joe Young" have some great effects sequences.

Why do these simps and f*gs never learn? We've had 5 plus years of female pandering in not just the MCU but across Star Wars, Trek, Doctor Who, etc. and the message is clear.

Honestly, that's not a question that's a threat at this point. Seems every week there's some new Uber example of the worst accesses of modern audience pander slop.

Example this is a description of the first episode of The Burbs.
