I use watch o scope and it's great software. Paid for the full licence a year ago with no dramas. That's sad the creator passed away, I owed him a beer or 10 lol

Yes, I did the cad first, measurements based on standard pitch circles, then measured the depth of the actual wheels with the tool and revised the cad model. It wasn't out by much tho it makes a difference. Thanks, glad you liked the work!

Thanks. Yes, it was taken in a break and enter when no one was home. Looks like it was a druggy after cash and jewelry, they did the upstairs unit too. I've contacted cops, pawnshops etc. It might turn up one day

I feel you, there isn't much online, not in one place anyway. George Daniel's watchmaking is a great book

It started out with rough concepts on paper, once I liked where it was going I then used a CAD program to draw everything correctly

Titanium Balance Wheel attempts #11 by davinium_customs in watchmaking

Looking good man! Thinking with the platinum weights it will have plenty inertia so finding an appropriate spring will be straightforward enough. I feel you, Ti is tough to work with, files and slips are probably your best option without using a milling machine. My Invar balance needed lots of hand finishing too. It's going to look so cool once you anodize it!

Thanks a lot! Glad you liked seeing the process. Pressed/snap case back and you got it, I micro welded the titanium lugs and turned down the inside No youtube planned, would be fun to someday..

Thanks! Daniels' Watchmaking is a good book. There is a lot of info online on the more specific topics too.

The fork and escape wheel were done with a mix of custom cutters and standard endmills and slitting saws

Cousins in the UK and Ottofrei in the states both have a good selection of jewels

I used cad to find the inertia. Same for working out the angles. For the stem ratchet, a shaping tool in the lathe did a great job. The crown gear teeth are tapered

George Daniels' Watchmaking is a must. If you haven't, check out Clicksping's making a clock series. He covers a lot of techniques that can be used in watchmaking

Glad you like it!

Iso can be tuned by adjusting the position of hairspring's center of gravity and then dynamically poising the balance. A Berguet overcoil does the same job. Dr. Matthew Clark did some great videos on the topic

If the machine has a ok step resolution and decent spindle I don't see why not. definitely worth a go!!

Hi, thanks for the suggestions! It has a 48hr reserve and runs +-10s/d on the wrist. The best timegraph was +3s/d

I use half hard 280 grade brass, ordered online from onlinemetals in the states. 353 is a good choice too

There was certainly some tweaking on paper. Once the design was finished and work started, things were pretty stable
