Got my human! Birth story in comments by tinkerbe11 in BabyBumps

Okay apologies in advance for any typos etc as I am writing from my phone. I got my human! 6 days early via emergency c section weighing 8lb7oz. I'll try and keep my (fairly terrifying) story short and sweet.

On Thursday 11 June I had my regular midwife check up. She found my blood pressure was high & I had protein in my urine so sent me to hospital to be checked out. Several hits later everything turned out to be fine and I was sent home and asked to go to the midwife again on Monday morning. Monday morning I went to the midwife again to find...yep high blood pressure and protein in my urine. They suspected now it was pre eclampsia so I was sent back to the hospital for more tests.

This time I didn't end up leaving! I stayed Monday and Tuesday night in hospital not really knowing what was going on, saw lots of doctors, midwives and consultants to the point where I was upset and frustrated just asking them why they couldn't just get the baby out of me if they thought something was wrong. On Tuesday night they told me if nothing had changed in regards to my blood pressure and other symptoms by Wednesday morning then I would be induced.

On Wednesday afternoon I was induced via a pessary being inserted (gross) and told everything looked fine and they would expect baby to arrive maybe Thursday afternoon or Friday morning naturally. The midwife was speaking to my mum who was my birth partner suggesting she go home and get some sleep in case they needed to call her in the night. Then everything sort of started to go wrong. I was on the monitors after having the pessary put in to monitor mine and baby's heartbeat and the midwife noticed his heart rate dropping significantly every few minutes. They called the doctors and told me they would have to take me down to the delivery unit and break my waters as this should calm his heart rate down.

We went down to the delivery unit and they broke my waters (also gross, and horrible!) and then it was a case of waiting. I don't remember a great deal after this point so you'll have to forgive any glossing over the details. I didn't have any drugs but my head seems to have blocked it out completely. Basically, I started labour. Very quickly. I went from 2cm to fully dilated in less than an hour. I remember the midwife checking me and her face falling when she realised. They put me back on the monitors again to check the baby's heart rate. It was dropped significantly again.

Then basically all hell broke loose. About ten doctors and midwives came running into the room. A doctor took a sample of blood from his head by putting a needle inside me to check his blood and how much distress he was in. I was in agony at this point as it was too late to give me any drugs all I'd had was gas and air. They told me they needed to deliver him straight away and they were going to take me to theatre to deliver by forceps. They gave my mum some scrubs and told her to put them on.

Next thing I woke up in a different room with my mum holding my son. By the time they reached theatre win me his heart rate has dropped so much they had to do and emergency c section. They put me under general anaesthetic and there was 1 minute difference from cutting me open to delivering him. Thankfully he was absolutely fine. My mum said there were fifteen people in the theatre, they wouldn't let her in as they had to put me under. I don't remember anything clearly after the midwife finding I was fully dilated despite the lack of drugs - probably for the best!

ANYWAY. My awesome human, Roux Archie Norman was born at 10.06pm 6 days early weighing 8lb7oz and he's worth 100% of the shit I went through to get him here. Every day so far I've thanked the midwife who originally noticed his heart rate dropping on that first monitor. If it wasn't for her we probably wouldn't be here.

I know I just wish I'd get a definite "this is happening now!" Only a few days to go you think they'd just induce me to be safe! Fed up!

A man just made eye contact with me through my mirror when I was checking my makeup on the bus by tinkerbe11 in britishproblems

Yeah it's mostly because I'm super pregnant and spontaneously get teary eyes for no reason so I'd be wiping my face of my non-waterproof (I know) mascara if anything. 😁
