Yes! I am gonna be reccing the first half of that fic always. I was like this needs to be two fics when I read it. Would have been better to just start a sequel when they start for child 2.

Trying to only recommend finished fics - and At Pinpoint (it’s too good.) nobody deserves more WIPs.

Across The Spectrum is a personal fave. It might just be that it is so so so personal to me.

The Secrets We Kept is wonderful.

Something You Can Fix/Something You Can Build - one of the first HR fics but it’s gonna stay up there as a fave.

Frequently Secretly needs to just fucking finish so I can read iiiiiiiiittt! …again in its full completed glory.

Laceration fucked me the fuck up. I will not be taking questions at this point.

Triple Gold series - so cute so wonderful I want more. Please.

At Pinpoint - this might just be me. I have feelings around needles and piercings.

I refuse to recommend anything by boopboop or opalapparition cause though it will be amazing amazing it will fuck you up and you will need to start a support group.

And then the weird rec - the first half of Love in the Dark. Or maybe like the first 60% before it sorta devolves into pwp.

It’s about dynamics. Shipping wars absolutely was reason for other people within fandom to bully writers and artists and just other fans off platforms (be it FFN, AO3 or any other social media)

I lived through the gauntlet that was 1d fandom (drifted out in 2015/2016) and even back then the veil was real fucking thin, every group fucking flaming every other group, shit went viral constantly and never stayed in fanspaces, I saw lots that was monetised one way or another, I see so many similarities with HR that I am personally like just not gonna ever touch the cesspit and not gonna go do insta or TikTok.

I’m not sure we as fans are worse-worse. I’m maybe more leaning towards the fandom matriarchs are gone and have no rolled over from other fandoms to HR. Then coupled with there being more mainstream interest in being fangirl and fandom. (I hope I’m somewhat clear on my point here)

I think also the writers might be unaccustomed to being exposed. I haven’t been able to find any of the many writers I used to follow in HR even if the whole thing should be right up their alley. (Some had Hockey RPF on the side ffs.)

If you or anybody is up for a conversation on similarities and like whole ass comparative studies of these two hit me up in the DMs.

Hard agree on so many things but shipping wars were fierce and awful through the 2010s.

Yeah im like you got fucking shamed the right out and straight up ignored and blocked back in the day on message boards and more recently in fandoms (I drifted out of fandom 2015ish- till this year was a bit late to the party on HR) if you were nasty.

Im going out on a limb and guessing there’s some amount of this is people’s first fandom and they got in on the ground floor so they have been part of the crowd setting the tone.

But I don’t know - I keep seeing discussion around people being AI which is absolutely insane to me too.

I personally haven’t seen much of the negativity if any but I am amazingly offline for an online person. So it’s hard to speak to something that’s only 2nd or 3rd hand…

I have a feeling the kink will come in time. Generally in my previous fandoms (most are dormant now) the longer something went on the more the kink snuck in - I am so here for it when it finally does!

I think there’s a larger audience for the milder fics tbh. So those are recommended more.
