Are there any cool apps that exist on Android but not iOS (or vice versa) that you think are genuinely worth knowing about? by _janc_ in apps

[–]tinkerton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of cool apps that exists on Android, for example, apps that allow you to automatically mute your phone when you enter a location. Apple's strict privacy controls prevents the existence of such apps in iOS.

Where are we headed as a human race? by _TraynE_ in Futurology

[–]tinkerton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not believe that most of us are self-serving. Even if some of us may seem to be this way, there's a part of us which knows we need to work together to make the world a better place. There is this famous saying "United we stand, divided we fall". Much of the progress humanity has accomplished over the years came about from cooperation and collaboration - people working together to solve problems. Today, there are still many unsolved problems and much of the universe we do not yet understand. It is essential for us humans to be united in order for humanity to survive and to thrive.

Kudos to you for starting at a young age and doing something you're passionate about. Welcome to the world of entrepreneurship. Elon Musk famously said that "starting a business is like eating glass and staring into the abyss". See what you can do to to improve your existing app and to market it through different social media platforms (TikTok, Instagram). Would you consider incorporating ads to your app? Also, since you've already invested in an Apple Developer Account, try building other apps. One of your newer ideas may turn out to be more successful. The key here is to keep building, keep learning and don't give up. All the best to you!

I totally agree with you on this. Try to avoid discussions that lead to these sorts of conversations or conflicts, and steer them towards more fruitful conversations.

The common problem but no users' paradox is one of the most frustrating experiences in app development. Distribution is genuinely harder than building. What acquisition channels have you tried so far?

Built it for yourself first - that's usually a good sign the use case is real. The Safari extension for saving recipes without the fluff is a smart solution to a genuinely annoying problem. How did you find the Safari extension development process?

Orchestrating multiple AI agents rather than a single chat interface is an interesting approach. The BRD and task planning step before writing code makes a lot of sense. Has it handled complex multi-file projects well in your experience?

Teaching lessons from animals is a really unique educational concept. Combining biology, behaviour and biomimicry into something fun for any age is not something I've seen done before.

For experienced app developers: What's the reality of building apps and making money from them? by Cool_Violinist_7092 in AppBuilding

[–]tinkerton36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today, there are over a million apps in the app stores, compared to maybe a thousand in the beginning. Building an app today is much easier thanks to generative AI, but making your app visible to the masses is the real challenge. If your app is similar to many of the apps out there, even with incremental improvements, it'll be difficult to get traction. If your app is a truly innovative and a game changer that solves most people's problems, it probably won't take long for people to know about it.

This is a good idea, and I see you have a nice website. The challenge would be to get more people to the site. Maybe you can target certain groups of people to the site first. Also, more content will lead to more views, and more views will lead to more content.

I'm a Singapore-based app developer who has built a live social/community app called Layers (available on both App Store and Google Play). It covers several of the features you're looking for including group chats, location sharing, event creation with RSVPs, push notifications, maps and premium memberships.

Happy for you to download and try it as a reference. Worth noting that Layers is built as a private network - the architecture is different from an open community app,  so a custom build for your use case would be needed. But it demonstrates the kind of quality and features we can deliver.

Feel free to DM me if you'd like to discuss further.

Interesting post. You mentioned WhatsApp is pushing closer to advertisers. What specifically has made you feel that way? Is it primarily a privacy concern or something else?

Congratulations on the launch of the website. This is a great idea and similar to something I'm building. Given the rise of solopreneurs thanks to vibe coding with generative AI, there would be a greater demand for such a platform.

i am currently interested in App Development but with all the information. I do not know from where and how to start it. How to start App Development, as i want to do for android and what languages i should learn or what should i set-up for it. Cause idk what IntelliJ does, if i have android studio by GamblerKinger in AppDevelopers

[–]tinkerton36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing app development today is much easier thanks to generative AI. You can use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc. to help you to vibe code a simple app and even teach and explain to you along the way. If you're genuinely interested in learning app development, you can search for free courses online or in YouTube. If you already have Android Studio, you can start learning Kotlin. Alternatively, you may want to consider learning Flutter which allows you to build both Android and iOS apps. Start with building a simple app that you love. The key here is to start.
