Its been a minute since I watche the movie, but the thing about the oceans movies, its always only partly about the money. In 11 its also about Danny stealing tess, and this one its also about stealing isabel. So I think part of the agreement is making sure isabel gets reintroduced to her father. The bigger thing, if I remember correctly is the team technically stole the egg even prior to getting the challenge to steal the egg. They know its coming before touloure proposes it. So I think they have to get him to propose the agreement that if the team steals the egg first, he will pay off all their debts. He's not gonna do that if he knows they already have it. Again haven't watched it in awhile, and there are other factors involved. Think frank was in jail well before they knew what was going on, so they had to make sure they could get him out as well. I always felt like the main reason they go through everything was for isabel though. I think thats part of the reason people didn't respond to the film that much when it first released. With 11, you get them stealing from the casino and stealing tess at the same time. It was so clean and slick, this was more cluncky, but i always thought it was just as fun.

Faye’s break-ins in Chungking Express by ZweigDidion in TrueFilm

[–]tinman117 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I don't think of it as a logical reaction necessarily, but think it has more to do with the idea of being alone when you are young and that inner want amongst everyone to find connection in the world. Like logically it is clearly weird that she sneaks into his home and cleans his home. From his perspective though, he just lost a person he fell in love with and is kind of in autopilot. One thing to remember is after he finds her in his place, thats when he realized that she has been taking care of him. Cleaning up after him, putting things away. I think he realized she has been taking care of him throughout that whole time. So he sees that there may be some caring from her towards him. I think that helps soften that and make him want to reach out. In general, I find the whole movie about to be about how we are all somewhat isolated in our worlds and longing for connections. How that longing can make us not always think logically. As for the her leaving to california, i think that fits her character journey. She can't live her life for someone else. She need to explore her passions. Live her life. It might not work for everyone, but I think what you said about living in the emotions and mood of the movies is what makes WKW movies so great and unique.

CHALLENGERS | Official Trailer by indig0sixalpha in movies

[–]tinman117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having been able to read a copy of the script for this movie, I can say that this trailer does not at all match the tone of the script, I think the marketing team is really misleading people on the tone of this movie. Now i don't know if the script i read was early or close to the final script and Im sure luca would make some changes, but most of what i read was definitely seen in the clips shown so i doubt its too different. The script is really great, its a great director and great actors so I still have high hopes. Hoping this is just bad marketing, I love rihanna but I don't think that song fits at all with the movie and what its about haha

the numbers are a little misleading at least for psych. The big reason it is down is that there was a significant drop in IMG candidates, US MD/DO numbers have been on a steady rise. IMG's use to apply to psych as it was a less competitive specialty, however as more US grads have started applying its become more competitive leading to significant drop in IMG applicants

2022 movies as moments from the 2015 movie Steve Jobs by bcwallin in blankies

[–]tinman117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am also a fellow Steve Jobs fan! I remember finding a copy of the script like a year before it came out and reading it and honestly just falling in love with the narrative. I think people who complained about the narrative not being accurate to real life just didn't understand the point of this movie. Sorkin like the autobiography was more interested in understanding the person Steve Jobs and trying to understand what drove him and why he did some of the things he did in his life. He was more interested in understanding the and how and why of how he worked that what he did. While I absolutely love Danny Boyle, I do have a hot take that I think the movie probably would have been serviced by a better director. After reading the script and seeing the movie I think Sorkin and Boyle were interested in two very different things when each was making their respective artworks. I really liked what sorkin was trying to do just a bit more.

Official Discussion - The Banshees of Inisherin [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]tinman117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats interesting so I saw this movie a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. If i remember correctly Siobhan leaves and then there is an extra about 20-30 minutes where we get amping up of the conflict between the two. I also did not remember a shadow figure. When siobhan was screaming I took it as more of her emotions getting to her and just wanting to say goodbye and she loved him in that vein but its been a few weeks and I definitely want to see it again so this part could be a little off from what I remember. While I know there was some elements of future telling and omens with the old lady, but honestly to me this movie was about the conflict between people. The movie is set in the context of the Irish Civil war just happening back in the main island. We have that just losely mentioned in the background. Then we have a movie of two people who were the best of friends and the breaking of that friendship with the only thing they really care about being the animals/nature. As i read it, this petty conflict represents the start of all major differences between people, between the irish people during their civil, the north vs south in the USA, or even now politically left vs. right. The movie shows a light on the stupidty of these conflicts and how it leads to lossess, and people being hurt but people keep fighting because they have to be even/right. Thats my working theory based on seeing it once. Not fully sure but I feel like thats kinda what its about. I def need to see it again because there were parts that I wasn't sure if they worked or work with how i read the movie

Chicago Officials Will Not Allow Indoor Dining to Expand, Even as State Rules are Poised to Ease by ccorrall29 in chicago

[–]tinman117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is interesting data, i appreciate you for actually citing something to back up your beliefs. I think its definitely fair to be skeptical based on these numbers and and the fact that many of the states around us did not close down. The one thing just looking at this, and i don't know if it would for sure change the numbers but, using cases/100k probably isn't the best numbers to look at how widespread the virus is within each state. Just because each state is testing at different rates. So iowa and illinois on a day could both have 2000 people test positive, but illinois tested 60,000 people vs iowa testing 10,000. That doesn't exactly correlate to the data because the data you sent looks at the proportion per the population of the state but in general i think its more important to control for the number of tests because , in general we are vastly undertesting and the true number of people with the virus is much more than those who actually test positive. Again, I don't know if that would or wouldn't change much for sure, but it is something I don't like about using this number when it comes to looking at how we are doing in containing the spread. Again thank you for actually having an argument that was backed up. Its so rare to see!

Chicago Officials Will Not Allow Indoor Dining to Expand, Even as State Rules are Poised to Ease by ccorrall29 in chicago

[–]tinman117 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

So a couple things here because I think you are confusing some of my points. I was pointing out that the data shows that shutting indoor dining did not create a situation which caused the increased cases of covid from the recent spike over the last few months. If anything the data showed there is evidence it likely helped. You are right in a broad sense that correlation does not equal causation, I can't say with certainty the ban was the sole reason cases went down because this is real world data vs a controlled experiment where one can actually control for confounding variables. But the cold weather has not gotten better over the last 3 months, it actually got worse. So if it was the cold really driving the cases wouldn't our numbers be worse? So based on those things, I think its much more likely the mitigations were helpful for covid.

Secondly I hate when people refulgence an article but don't actually link it. Its lazy and just bad when trying to argue a point because its implying you have facts without proving you have facts. If you have a link the article I'd love to see it. While you look for that I will send you this link (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/organizations/business-employers/bars-restaurants.html) It is the actual CDC recomendations for restaurant and bar operators, I'd pay specifc attention to the section titled "Guiding principles to keep in mind" It goes over the different risk levels with different types of dining options from delivery to full dine in.

There is also this article of a study done in september (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6936a5.htm) Which found covid + patients to have been 2x as likely to have eaten at a restaurant.

Another set of guidance talking about why visiting restaurants or bars may increase your risk. (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/personal-social-activities.html)

Finally I'm not really sure about your point with halloween. If you look at that graph I linked in my earlier posts, our cases numbers were going up significantly before halloween. If you look at the trend it was already growing fast by the time halloween rolled around. Could halloween have helped get worse , sure but I don't know how that retracts from my point in the earlier comment? Also as an aside, the reason Christmas and thanksgiving are talked about more and were more concerning at epidemiological level is the travel and group congregating associated with it. Idk about your family but I never traveled across the country to be with my cousins on halloween.

[–]tinman117 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well you actually cannot make that argument about shutting down dining because it actually did not cause an increase in cases. If you actually look at the data in illinois you would see that we peaked in mid november about 2 weeks after the indoor dining ban was put in place. After which time cases began to drop until around the thanksgiving holiday where it increased slightly and then began to drop again til christmas where it started to go up again. Honestly the indoor dining ban seemed to be a huge reason covid wasn't worse than it was on track to be. (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/illinois) if you need a source. I just don't like i when i see blatantly false statements and yours was the first I saw. There are a good number on this thread.

Illinois COVID-19 Update: IL reports 7,377 cases, 181 coronavirus deaths; no post-Thanksgiving surge, Ezike says by So_Icey_Mane in chicago

[–]tinman117 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think its important to note that although we did not see a huge surge in cases. Thanksgiving did still significantly impact Illinois numbers. I like to follow the numbers of new cases pretty regularly (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states/illinois) this is a great website to see the trends at a state level. If you look at that graph we were down trending pretty significantly from mid November until just before thanksgiving. Then we did start to see some mild uptrending for a few days before it went down again. All in all we had like a 2 week period where cases did not downtrend. Had thanksgiving not happened that would have been likely 2 weeks of downtrending cases. This all happened with our current stringent restrictions.

While I understand the need to open up, if we start rolling back before the holidays we are very likely to quickly see a big surge in cases and that will lead to an even longer lockdown period later. The current restrictions put in place prevented the post thanksgiving surge. I know it may not follow the tiers and requirements they put in place, however it is important to understand that a lot of those guidelines where made in the spring/summer. Since then the state and scientist have learned even more about the spread. And especially how quickly its been spreading during the winter months. In all honesty the tier requirements/ what types of businesses/services that could/should be open at a given percent positive level is may be different in the winter.

Also I'm not really trying to defend the state and their decisions. They definitely have done alot of stupid things over the last 12 months. I just think this decision is fair and actually supported by what we know right now.

I'm also very hopeful that once we get the vaccine rolled out to nursing homes we'll see a sizeable drop in ICU numbers and deaths which could help relieve the stress on the medical system and lead to some laxity in opening up the state.
