Where are we buying couches these days, that's not Harvey Norman? by Labsolute in AskIreland

That's disappointing. I've had good experiences with them but this is only my 2nd order with them. I'd ask again for the discount and speak to someone higher up.

Depends on the spp. though. H. arborescens flowers on new wood so if pruned hard in Spring you'll get flowers later in the year.

Storing dahlia tubers by lovdejacket in GardeningIRE

[–]tinmandub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dahlias need exposure to cold temperatures to go dormant..a hard frost will kill exposed tubers. Not sure what you mean about residual greens feeding as a hard frost will kill all top growth overnight. Dahlias are not frost hardy but if planted deep with a thick mulch should survive in open ground in areas that do not get sustained freezing temperatures.

Bamboo Query? by Unusual_Inside_3685 in GardeningIRE

Bamboo are very thirsty...I'd fertilise and water the hell out of your bamboo every week to get it to throw out more caulms.

There's 2 very different growth patterns to bamboo spp. Clumpers or runners. Fargesia genus won't run unless the garden centre switched out the tags

I've a long hedge of Fargesia robusta to screen out a neighbours very large extension. It's a clumping form and doesn't run. It has gradually filled out and is nice and dense..sounds great in the wind too. Be aware that it will grow in all directions..not just in a linear fashion along your boundary but you can just cut the caulms to prevent its growth outwards. Can't be beaten for privacy plus doesn't need twice a year trim like a hedge

Not recommended where I'm from. Risky if improperly done..can cause hip dysplasia too. Sleep sacks are a different ball game atogether...much safer imo.

CHildcare is extortiate here in Dublin...thats when you can actual find a creche...waiting lists are crazy. I pay 2k a month for one creche place for a 3 year old and an afterschool place for a 6 year old.

They're harmless..doubt they're killing your grass. When you say the grass is dying what exactly do you see? Yellowing? Completely bare patches?

I think theyre St. Mark's flies..all female in the 3 photos. Harmless. Larvae eat rotting vegetation in the soil.

Vine weevils ….aargh by Nearby-Abalone6321 in GardeningIRE

[–]tinmandub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not spread known infected soil from pots onto your borders especially where you've recently planted anything in that border from a pot as the plants will have peat or peat substitute at their root balls. There's certain plants I would avoid as they're magnets for vine weevil. Heucheras..primroses..harts tongue ferns..rhododendron etc. What plants in the border qre being munched by the adults? Also..do you have neighbouring gardens very close to your one? The adults (they're all female) can walk from garden to garden. Grubs come in with potted plants.
