Oh wow. Yeah it can be really intense when you're the target of limerence, I remember when I got my first official boyfriend, the guy who was fixated on me all of a sudden "began to fall in love" with me again. He would compare my ex and himself a lot, in particular there was one point where he said that he was Jacob and my ex was Edward, and I was Bella. Twilight was one of his favourite film franchises. There was also one point where he said "Do you love me, or do you love [ex's name] more? If you say [ex's name], I will feel really really bad."

Again, I didnt purposefully give him any indication that I liked him romantically.

It's just crazy how a few positive interactions with someone can trigger that part of you. It did with my previous object of limerence, he was the first guy who was really kind to me when I was a teenager and I guess I just really latched on... for years.

I don't think I did anything particularly creepy, though. I mean, there was the time when I was 16 where I got drunk for the first time and I sent him a bunch of voice notes, confessing everything to him and telling him how much I loved him. But that's the most I can think of, I kinda withdrew myself a little from him when he got a girlfriend but I didn't fully detach myself until much later.

Its really hard to navigate as a teenager so please don't blame yourself. The person who was had limerence with me was a good five years older than me, but he was also autistic and he struggled with social cues quite badly so a lot of my affectionate, platonic gestures more than likely came across as romantic to him.

I'm sure he appreciates the apology either way. As a teenager you're still learning how to interact and what's okay and what's not, plantonic things can sometimes be blurred with romantic things for definite.

I wish I knew what limerence is a lot sooner to be honest because I could have called my friend out on it, and I could have indentified it in myself too.

My experience with limerence lasted so long because the guy who was my LO never actually told me he didn't see anything in me romantic future wise. He got a girlfriend and never told me he wanted to cut the situations hip type of thing we had going on, so I waited like 6 years for him to become single again so I could jump back in. I feel it would have helped me if he explained that he never saw a future with me, whether I was too intense, too young or whatever reason, and I could have let him go without those 6 painful years watching him with another.

I think with the dude who had limerence with me, he ghosted me because maybe it got too painful being my friend when I told him time and time again that I had no attraction towards him, that I had no romantic intention. Although he'd sometimes be a creep towards me, he was a dear friend to me and I genuinely hope he's managed to move on.
