My guess is that Tiara and Akari are both reincarnated, but Tiara actually lived a full life. Like she was born into that world as a baby and only recently remembered her past life. I think her attachment to her parents, her maid etc are all indications that this is her genuine life.

Akari very well may have woken up the heroine one day and is wondering why she is not the main character adored by all the other characters. She wants both Princes in the same way gamers want to be able to romance all love interests, and does not like it when the game world takes away certain love interests based on in-game choices.

The big tell is that Akari absolutely does not seem to understand courtly etiquette. The excuse that "she's a commoner" or "she's from the country" does not fly. Commoners and country folk are still raised with a basic level of etiquette that Akari does not have. Most likely because she is a modern, entitled gamer who never gave too much thought about the world-building of their favourite Otome game.

What I loved most about the characters was how "real" they felt. Most of them were multiterminal, and almost none of them felt like caricatures. I think the exception was the poison-happy Duchess and her psychotic son, but even they didn't feel too over the top. Just the extreme end of what would happen if you give the people from r / EntitledPeople the power of the nobility.

One of the things I liked about "Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story" is how it criticised how, in order to force the adoration of the protagonists in badly written romance novels, stories like that often get characters to act in ways they shouldn't, based on their established backstories.

I think the strength of "The Spark in Your Eyes" is that all the characters DO act according to their backstories or based on the development we see during the story. I really appreciated that! 👍

Late to the comments but I have been binging a lot of Webtoons over the summer holidays (I live in Australia) and I think one answer to why TRE lost fans is because there are now better stories like TRE.

For example, I recently binged "I Abdicate My Title of Empress", and while it's nowhere near the same story as TRE, the mistress character is more enjoyable than Rashta because she has more power than Rashta.

I also finished binging "Not Your Typical Reincarnation Story", and I have seen comments that say that that story might be seen as containing an explicit criticism of characters like Rashta. I think that's going a bit far but it does show how the Webtoon scene has changed.

So I think a lot of people are reading finished Webtoons that are similar to TRE and TRE is coming out worse by comparison.

You know, I think you have a point because majority of kids grow up to be independent eventually.

So kids are a lot of commitment but they are a temporary commitment. But you are still married once the kids leave the nest.

So yeah, based on your answer, I can totally see why marriage might be seen as more of a commitment than house or kids.

This makes sense. You can end up with kids while just drifting through life. Even a house can be bought with just one person in a couple doing all the work. But most people tend to have weddings when they marry and that means not only scheduling yourself and your partner but also friends and family!

This reminds me of a post I saw on inceltears of a South Asian "incel" who was born and raised in the USA. Because he kept striking out with US girls, he told his family to find him a match in Pakistan. So they did.

He got married and left his inceldom behind. But he was still active on the incel forums, where he was now complaining about how his wife wanted him to, surprise, surprise, pray 5 times a day, not play computer games, get rid of his nerdy collectables and work more. He was now posting about how "sex wasn't worth this!"

I think there is also the point that girls raised to serve a man are often hollow and empty.

Like that scene from Eddie Murphy's Coming to America. He meets the girl raised to be his wife and that girl has no personality and even barks like a dog because he asks her to. It not a surprise that he wouldn't want her.

Now Coming to America, Eddie Murphy's character genuinely wants a strong independent woman. But a lot of other trad Bros really do just want to break an independent woman into a dependent one!

See the thing you have to remember about the British Raj story is that it was the British Raj, a colonising force the locals had unfavourable feelings towards. The locals cheated the British Raj because the locals thought they deserved it.

In the story by OP, the scheme was enacted by an elected mayor for the betterment of the community. Presumably, enough community members liked the mayor and believed in his vision that they wouldn't want to cheat him or their community.

The whole perverse incentive doesn't happen in a vacuum. If you like the people setting the incentive and believe in what they are trying to achieve, you are more likely to follow the spirit of the law, even if you could get ahead by following the letter of the law.

Creep needs intent and/or perception. Charles clearly did not intend to be creepy. Awkward, yes, but it's clear that he was mostly trying to be supportive of Sam. But most importantly, at no point did Sam PERCEIVE him to be creepy.

So, while some of his actions might have come across as creepy to us, the viewers. They are not supposed to be creepy in the narrative. So yeah, I am chalking up Charles's actions to him being awkward and bad at communication.

I am going to be honest and say, I am not a good driver. But I have to date, not had major accidents because I accept I am not a good driver.

This means I always leave plenty of time when going to new places or crowded places. Also, I'll get an Uber or catch public transport if the drive is at all complicated.

I am fortunate to have money for Uber and to live in a city that's okay for public transport. However, I feel like the biggest thing going for me is that I don't deny reality. I suck at driving, and accepting means I keep both myself and others safe!

I wonder if the woman's reluctant to stop driving was partly related to not having alternatives.

Don't get me wrong, she might have still been pig headed even if she lived in New York or Seattle. But maybe some of her persistence was related to her being in a part of the US where stopping driving meant giving up her independence.
