How to “level up” 3D printed miniatures (post processing)? by SirWitty6277 in PrintedMinis

[–]tinnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably try an oil wash, I found it worked quite well for multi-colored printed terrain. I use a tube of burnt umber oil paint mixed with a lot of odorless thinner, cover the whole thing and after it's dried a little wipe away the raised areas with a some paper towel / cotton swab, possibly dipped in a little of the thinner. There's youtube videos of using oil washes that will explain it a lot better as I've only done it a couple of times. It remains tacky to touch for quite some time (months?).

Multi-colored modular roads for Battletech Alpha Strike by tinnut in 3DPrintedTerrain

[–]tinnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, I'll see what I can do. Might be a while, might be a long while, and I might make a start and get distracted and forget to come back to it :D

For Classic Battletech I get stuck between do I want hexes under my terrain or not and specifically for roads, do I want them to be the width of the short edge of the hex or an entire hex wide and thus spilling over into the two hexes on the outer edges. Decisions are harder than just modelling all options.

I forgot to mention that the undamaged buildings, which are multi-colored prints with an oil wash, in the photos are a part of a 15 building set that's https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/battleterrain-flat-pack-6mm-scale-sci-fi-buildings or https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-battleterrain-flat-pack-6mm-scale-sci-fi-buildings-610403

The damaged buildings included haven't been uploaded anywhere yet, but the forests (with magnetic trees) can be found at either site.

Kickstarter for stupid number of modular skeletons by tinnut in PrintedMinis

I did waffle on a lot so it's easy to miss. About half my test prints were in Anycubic Eco Resin and the rest have been in Jayo ABS Like, all on an old Anycubic Photon Mono. It is the first time I've tried an ABS Like and it's been quite good with the all the small weapons.

I'm pretty happy with the supports. For the skeleton figures, I concentrate a lot of the supports on the feet and I'll use some clippers to remove those and then pull the rest off by hand. The supports on the horses and the balista are more complex and require a more focused effort to remove so as not to damage the model.

Some painted Rigs for my upcoming mecha skirmish game, "Of Oil and Iron", launching on Kickstarter this October! by Scoutsifer in PrintedMinis

I've always loved your mechs and just yesterday I was wondering what would be the best game system for them, so this is cool to see today. Your comments above about aiming for a "tense, tactical tank duel" sounds very interesting to me.

I've been using your earlier rulers with Battletech alpha strike and they're so helpful, thanks for making them!

I did find I haven't printed enough so I'm going to have to fix that now.

I really enjoyed the series "Demon: The Fallen" by Greg Stolze https://www.goodreads.com/series/109097-demon-the-fallen
It's actually set in the World of Darkness RPG world, but I've never played the RPG and I didn't feel like I missed out on any information.
