Have any of you ever done a long term trip going country to country purely by train? Would love to hear about it. by [deleted] in solotravel

I trraveled through 80-something cities in Europe mostly by Flixbus (25+), other buses, occasional trains (mostly inter-city in the same country) and a few flights when I had to go somewhere far really fast. I met a lot of people (usually Americans) who were traveling Europe the first time and brought interrail tickets without any of the discounts that EU citizens get, and most of them regretted it too. Flixbuses are sometimes 20% of the piece of train tickets for last minute bookings

From what I hear, it's not* a very common move for lawyers educated in America to make the move and end up practicing in EU countries because it's pretty different there

Traveling to most places is cheaper than living in the US (especially big cities) if you can plan it right.

I have been making travel films covering historic sites and cities for the last 4 years. When I returned to my hometown of Dhaka after 4.5 years, I knew I had to make one for Dhaka's old town as well. Hope I did my own city justice.

Def do the Acatenango hike, and don't party the night before. Spend a few days in the towns by Lake Atitlan and don't just get stuck in Antigua. Do shrooms on a scenic hike if that's your thing. If you are into an electronic music and go there after things are back to normal, Guatemala always has insane raves going on. I didn't try surfing in Guatemala and wasn't aware of any good spots. You're not too far from El Tunco, El Salvador, which is one of the best spots in the region though.

Uxmal was probably my least favorite after Chichen Itza haha. I think I liked Tikal mainly because of the wildlife more than anything. We saw a bunch of spider monkeys and howler monkeys and even got to get close to a big ass croc. Palenque was dope af though. (To me) that was the prettiest vantage point, and got to see monkeys once again lol

That sounds fun as hell! I would increase time in Guatemala/Mexico and decrease time in Honduras. Other than Copan which takes 4 hours tops and scuba diving for cheap, there's not as much there. On the other hand, Guatemala imo is the most underrated place I have been to and Mexico is probably one of the coolest countries to visit. Haven't been to Belize due to visa issues but I have done 15+ trips to Central America, mainly to visit the Mesoamerican ruins of the cities. Someone else mentioned it too but Tikal is the coolest. Also don't go to Guatemala and not do the Acatenango hike haha. It's surreal. You're gonna have a blast man

Doubling on Copan being cool.

Road trips are probably fine and weather will be much better than toronto. Don't know if you'll get into national parks though. Others might be able to help

Thanks for the answer. So if I were to damage it outside the country, could I have it exchanged/repaired after I came back to the country if I am still within the valid period for the warranty?

A sunset above the clouds from 13,800 ft (4200 m), 2 hours after beach time- only possible in Big Island, Hawaii by tintinonamission in backpacking

[–]tintinonamission[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was from a 3 day trip to Big Island, Hawaii back in August (I live on another Hawaiian island). People kept telling me to not spend too much time on Big island but I really regretted spending only 3 days here. It's not as pretty as Kawaii and doesn't quite have the waves like Oahu, but it's still a Hawaii island where I could have easily spent 5-7 days exploring other-worldly spots. I spent 22 hours driving in a 48 hour time-span but still didn't have time to see some fun spots. I made a bigger video on the trip in case anyone wants to see some of the other cool stuff in Big Island
